It is going to be interesting to see how Rocky and Stocko are viewed ten years from now. I think Stocko is definitely the better keeper, and his personality makes him more beloved, but Rocky's CV with us (as far as achievements) is second to none.
At no point did I suggest anyone blindly accept my assessment. Nor did I claim to be convinced that he's going to be terrible. I am not Nostradamus. Of course I have seen him play. It is on that basis that I believe him to be an inadequate and underwhelming replacement.
I asked this question yesterday and will ask it again. Which Stockdale are you expecting to be replaced, the one that came to Wycombe overweight, and unfit, or the Golden Glove winner that left? Wycombe rescued Stockdale's career and helped him rediscover his quality. That is not easily replaced.
I do not recall seeing either Max Stryjek or Nathan Bishop play, so currently can only judge on their respective records to date.
Nathan Bishop, since last playing for Southend in 2019/20 season has had one season in League 2. He may be a fine young keeper, but that is not the most inspiring record.
Max Stryjek has had two seasons in the SPL which in terms of standard includes clubs of mid/lower EPL to league 2 level. I would suggest that has been a better test than League 2.
Add the fact that Max is a bit older so hopefully brings a bit more maturity, and he is a permanent signing who in the future could command a sell on fee rather than a loan. I would suggest the club have done good business.
You’re right of course Wendoverman, but I don’t like people making statements they cannot back up. One guy on Facebook said Stryeck is unreliable and has a bad attitude and when I challenged him for evidence he replied ‘a little birdie told me’. The opposite of my namesake is at least expressing a personal opinion but has he watched him play often enough to make that opinion valid?
“Of course I have seen him play. It is on that basis that I believe him to be an inadequate and underwhelming replacement.”
On the assumption that someone on behalf of GA had also seen him play and has considered him to be at least an adequate replacement you have to agree that @glasshalfempty has put themselves in prime position for future scouting opportunities if their assessment proves to be more accurate than the person we (presumably) pay to do so.
Yes, but how often has he seen him play and has he assessed every aspect of his game in every tiny detail? These signings aren’t made on the hoof, clubs go to great lengths before making a derby and Gaz is especially focused on character as well as ability.
@glasshalffull I would say I watched him play approx. a dozen times or so and the one aspect of his game I noticed fairly quickly is his decision making. Whether in open play or at set-pieces he’s quick to commit. In some instances it could be described as reckless. I don’t think it put the defenders in front of him at ease and even as a neutral it made nervous. It’s difficult to judge character as a spectator but he seems to have an aberration every now and again. I would also question why Livingston replaced him this summer and are happy to let him go.
I’m not really sure I need to add this disclaimer but I am speaking as a fan, not a scout.
@bluenotes Apologies for missing your question yesterday. I am of course expecting the David Stockdale that performed so well between the sticks over the past two seasons to be replaced. I see so reason why we couldn’t have replaced him with a goalkeeper of similar standing. Nathan Baxter would have been an exciting replacement, he has real potential, but sadly it was not meant to be. Craig MacGillivray from Charlton Athletic would have been another good option but we have gone with Max Stryjek. Let’s hope my fears are misplaced and he proves to be more than adequate.
@glasshalfempty. Nathan Baxter was on loan with Hull in the Championship last season and has returned for 22/23. It is exceedingly unlikely he would have dropped to league 1.
Craig MacGillivray has a year to run on his contract. It is unlikely he would have been loaned to another League 1 club, and I have no idea whether Charlton would consider selling, or what the fee would be.
There is much more to the transfer market than just plucking names off of a wish list.
It should be remembered that if Stockdale had been fit and in favour at the time he came to Wycombe, then he would never have signed for Wycombe. Helping players refind themselves and getting them back on track has been as big a part of Wycombe's success, as finding and developing young raw talent.

very solid indeed.
The worst one was a preseason game that I believe was being streamed on YouTube. IIRC he let a slow back pass go straight through him into the goal.
Against West Ham?

That’s the one
Yup, that’s it, the trickler against the Hammers.

How many times have you seen him play and why do you think he is inadequate?
Second to Paul Hyde maybe?
@glasshalffull save your energy.
@glasshalfempty returns with black cloud intact and @davecz has been demanding players to show our intentions for three years or so.
Both always hope to be proved wrong.
But whatever happens...they never seem to be.
😉

Martin Taylor is still the best keeper we have had since 1990.

To be fair to @glasshalfempty he has said:

I was speaking more of achievements. No-one else has been in a promotion side from L1, and Rocky has played the most games for us in that division.
I've read better poems.
That was meant as a dig! Too subtle?
I’ve read worse as well…
How confident are you that Gareth or his scouts have seen Max play in the flesh?

Is this Max's song then......?

I have to admit I’m intrigued as to why @glasshalfempty
MacGillivray is a great shot-stopper but about as commanding as a baby sparrow. Would have been another Allsop.
Well, we are all going to have our own opinions of Max come 10am tomorrow (yes, I am stubbornly insisting on Mountain Time).
I thought time zones worked by longitude, not altitude
It might just be a symptom of my age, but could you elaborate?

Yes, guilty as charged I’m afraid!
