I was surprised not to see the changes earlier. Considering the heat, I thought we'd plan around it, take full advantage of the 5 subs. I know we haven't got as strong a bench as we'd like right now, but it seemed like our energy really flagged post our goal, and really allowed them to take control of the game in the last half an hour.
Disappointing result. Whilst pretty solid at the back, Shrewsbury are nothing special and our poor defending was to blame for us losing the game, not their potent attack.
Hard to see a huge amount of hope for an immediate bounce back and positive run of form if those injuries are long-termers.
@therabbittest we were great in the first half with their keeper making 3 really decent saves to deny us. We tailed off a little in the second half probably due to heat & fair play to Shrewsbury they defended en-masse and held their shape very well, looking to break quickly & get set pieces. Their first goal was from a long throw where Obita made a mistake & the second was from a quick break & JJ making a mistake.
Where i think we went wrong was when Freeman came on as we often ended up with him, Mehmetti & GMac all trying to play wide(ish) left which meant there was little attacking threat in the middle & Grimmer was unprotected on the right, if Freeman was indeed subbed on for Horgan he should either have taken on that role in the centre or swapped with Mehmeti.
Whilst I love Wheeler, he is not an attacking focus and would much rather have seen al-Hamadi have come on for Mellor, as he is a big strong lad and would have worried their CBs much more than Wheels.
It does feel like the Couhig’s have set the team a mission statement of playing more exciting* and expansive football to get more bums on seats; and Ainsworth and Dobbo understandably appear to be finding it tough adjusting to this having spent so many years mastering ugly* yet effective football with limited footballers on a shoestring budget. It’s inevitably going to take a bit of time to transition; but hopefully it’ll click sooner rather than later. Could really have done with transfer business having been concluded sooner; but waiting a little bit for Mawson and an experienced keeper (Bishop m’lord?) will surely be worth the wait.
Little bit unlucky today. Thought we played pretty well for an hour. Fair play to Shrewsbury - did exactly what we have done for the past few years to get the result. Mellor did well but I think having vokes back we have the ability to mix the intricate passing with a focal point in the box. On to Tuesday
I would be really concerned if either Rob or Pete had any say in the way we play. The fact that we are playing more expansively is all GA and Dobbo, and quite frankly today it was necessary given we weren’t playing with a target man up top.
not celebration at all annoyance more like and anger at people making out im just be negative for no reason none of you have the bottle to admit when your wrong .
We were definitely masters of our own downfall. Poor individual defensive errors from Obita & JJ for the goals. Substitutions didn't add anything (sadly) - I'd like to have seen AAH given a chance.
We sure did miss Vokes & Tafazzoli.
However, the ref was poor in not booking any of their players for persistent fouls play, it would have stopped them repeatedly fouling - which might have help our attacks.
I would be concerned but not surprised. Their whole business model is engineered around improving the match day experience in order to increase match day revenue.
Backfires if the team don’t regularly win though!
Note:- I’m not getting on the backs of GA or the Couhig’s - it’s a long season and there were some positives today. You win games like today more often than you don’t.
That was the first game I have seen this season, and being an exile I travelled to Vipienne to see it, but I finally think the attacking players have a plan B and would have scored more without their keeper saving a few.
The problem is defence, and we need somebody with experience to command the backline, as although none of them really had a terrible game, apart from possibly JJ giving the penalty away, they didn't look like a cohesive unit like they have in the past.
Did Stockdale really command the line that well, or was it Stewarts quiet calmness that helped even when he used to be scrambling the ball away as if from nowhere? Whatever it was, they need to get it back, whether it comes from Mawson playing more regularly or something else, as I felt we gave away both goals today, one by not marking and one by holding their player when the ball was going out.

Where to begin?
Played like an U11 team for much of the second half. Lots of players. No direction. A modest amount of enthusiasm.
Either GA will be fuming at the team for not following through with his tactics or worryingly that was the tactics.

Stronger ref and a striker and we could have smashed them. Sh*t happens.JJ at CB in a 2 becoming an issue too unfortunately.
He was playing LB when he conceded the pen
Is Rob Couhig still expecting automatic promotion?

Fair point, bit warm :)
2 places above Oxford and 6 above the Franchise if you need some positivity btw.

Early days.
But we didn't... point proven
Today, I'm afraid we were "Wycombe'd" ... last season we'd have won that match
Like Shrewsbury at home earlier this year!!!! 😂
Funnily enough that was actually my consoling thought as I left the stadium! Every cloud

I think we can all agree that Marko Maroši was their Man of the Match.
Please let's not have more of this revs rumour type nonsense that we had for a month last year.

Cheer up Trev.
Ooooh! Get you, Trev.

Exactly that. Sometimes football is pure sods law.
Like bringing Mawson on and conceding a min or 2 later.

What’s a rev’s rumour @Malone ? Suggestion by Nathan Jones that he’s signing Taf ?
That was depressing
Excuse me but how does a banned person get to continue posting?
I’d argue it was the ref
Hanla, Vokes and who else? I must be losing it.

De Barr seemed to be ahead of Mellor in the pecking order recently. There’s also Kaikai.
