Yeah good guess @Twizz that was a season of unlikely semi finalists but Pompey Barnsley and Cardiff had all won it before (can't remember the other semi finalists?)
So in the last 1/3 century - 33 years, there have been nine different winners of the cup ,
Arsenal 9
Chelsea 7
Man U 6
Liverpool 4
Man City 3
Everton, Portsmouth , Wigan and Leicester - one each.
In half that time before that (16 years) - when I was a kid - there were ten different winners.
I think that is why it is now so unmemorable. At the start of each season, you can be pretty sure that there is probably a 90% chance that it will be won by one of the big five and honestly it doesn't feel like it mattes too much which one.

Wigan?
I didn't know the answer when I set the question (I was thinking Ipswich)..but yes it must be Wigan
Who was it before Wigan?
(It's not Ipswich just thought of someone else )
Wimbledon?
Aye of course Wimbledon.
Who was before Wimbledon?
(It's not Ipswich..that was a shameful guess!)
Erm Portsmouth in 2008?
Nope they won it in 1938
Coventry the year before Wimbledon

Correct. In the greatest era of Cup Finals for an eighties kid like me.
Before Cov it was Ipswich in 78.
Who was before Ipswich...
Clue..it wasn't long before Ipswich
Southampton?
Correct! Good knowledge
Who did Southampton take the title off..?
Sunderland?
Nooooo
Surely someone like yourself has encountered many Sunderland fans telling you how many trophies they won in the late 19th/early 20th century?
Again and again and again
(tbf I've just looked it up and apart from their legendary 70s upset against Leeds, Sunderland's only other Cup was in the thirties!)
Who knew Sunderland fans were full of ++++
Leeds.
Even Bury from Greater Manchester have won more.
Correct! Great knowledge. The one and only time Leeds have won the Cup. In the centenary season if Nick Hornby is correct.
In my immense stupidity I've just realised @DevC's original answer was incorrect.
So will return to the original question...who were the the last club to win the FA Cup for the first time?
(Without looking up as I've shamefully had to do!)
Has to be Leicester!
10 points to @Last_Quarter
It's a sure sign of ageing when one 'remembers' things before one was born but can't remember things that happened a few years ago
I'm thinking Wigan.
I thought I would do a bit of research on this.

Aye. I think I can name every Cup final from 1970 to 2002. (I was born in 1980). But the finals since are a bit of a blur.
So this season is more fun as there will be at least one 'rare finalist.
