Cards, or cash only?
@MindlessDrugHoover We take both mate 👍🏻
I was worried you might say "Crypto only".
Only if I then immediately bludgeoned myself to death with Steve Evans’ toilet brush.
Today’s the day! Don’t forget to pick up your copy of the brand new edition of The Wanderer before today’s game, available only from the WWISC stand on Hillbottom Road. Free for WWISC members and just £2 for everyone else, with cash or card payment accepted. Enjoy the game and COYB!
@Jonny_King is it possible to get a PDF copy of The Wanderer as I’m guessing it gets put in a PDF format ahead of printing or during the process?
I’d love to receive a regular PDF copy if this is possible and could be arranged as I can’t attend so many matches these days and I still love to read it.
Just thinking out loud and suggesting an idea, but perhaps an annual payment could be an option for some people if there were others like myself. Then to receive it as an email when produced throughout the year etc.
Keep up the good work all at The Wanderer.
There is a postal option on the membership form / yearly renewal.
I helped them convert one to pdf and have it online for an anniversary but not sure there was much interest in modernising if it takes away from the match day experience, agree it would be good for past editions and people who live further away.
Hi @username123. Essentially, what @StrongestTeam says. The best option is to join WWISC and get them posted out to you (which off the top of my head is, I think, an extra £10 to cover the p&p).
@Jonny_King - did you mean Richard Thomas on your page 3 editorial, or Scott Marshall?
Excellent read otherwise - well done to you and all contributors
@AlanCecil Thanks Alan. Urgh, yeah I meant Scott Mitchell. I had realised I needed to correct it and then completely forgot to!
Cheers that’s sounds like a plan!
Good read as usual @Jonny_King
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the latest edition and to everyone who picked up a copy on Saturday. Hopefully it was more entertaining than the game!
Any unsold copies will be on sale before the home game against Wrexham on 15th March.
Bit late to this as only picked up my copy yesterday but agree with above, everyone should read your editorial, haven't seen the situation summed up so well elsewhere, firm without getting unduly rude or accusational. I believe they sold out yesterday so maybe you'll post it on here??
Would love to read that. Please post if permitted.
Apologies @StrongestTeam and @perfidious_albion, I missed this when it was posted and just happened to catch it today.
I've copied the editorial below. It's as it appeared in the fanzine, other than I've corrected Richard Thomas to Scott Mitchell.
I’ve said before that it’s never dull supporting Wycombe, and the last few months have been typically eventful, with exciting arrivals, shocking departures and dramatic events both on and off the pitch. It almost seems irrelevant to mention that The Wanderer turned 30 last month! Obviously, the main talking point has been the departure of Matt Bloomfield and it’s perhaps for the best that we had to delay bringing out this issue, as the extra few weeks have given me a bit of time to calm down.
Now that the dust has settled, I’ll say this; I found the circumstances surrounding Matt’s departure very troubling. I don’t think it was a secret that there were some differences of opinion behind the scenes, as highlighted by the surprise sacking of Scott MItchell, and it seems clear that the new owners had always intended to bring in their own man. Maybe that’s fair enough, especially had we been muddling around in midtable, but this was a manager that was not only delivering – he was overperforming, and it’s frustrating that our form has since stuttered. The exciting, high-scoring attacking football we were playing has disappeared in recent weeks and the inconsistent results, particularly against sides down the bottom of the table, have been as frustrating as they were predictable.
There were depressing levels of vitriol towards our departing manager on social media, with various accusations of him being a ‘snake’ or ‘Judas’, ironically a lot of it from the same little weasels who weren’t prepared to show Blooms a shred of loyalty when he needed it during that tough period last winter. Personally, I maintain that a happy Matt Bloomfield doesn’t take that job, and it very much feels like he was nudged towards the exit by people who didn’t want him here in the first place. Certainly, his rather pointed comments upon arrival at Luton lend a degree of weight to that argument. I thought the two paragraph club statement announcing his departure was a disgrace and it made me, for the first time in my life, embarrassed to be a Wycombe fan. It made us look like a spiteful little club and I found myself having to take a two-week Wycombe break, opting for a couple of long dog walks rather than watching or listening to our games.
This isn’t a criticism of Mike Dodds’ appointment. I wish him nothing but success, but if we lose out on promotion from this position, we can only blame ourselves for a shocking act of self-sabotage. To do this halfway through a delicately-poised campaign feels like the owners have prioritised rearranging the furniture over pushing our advantage and it would be awful if we lost out purely because of ego and inner politics. I hope we can still achieve promotion, but frankly, some of the magic has gone out of this season for me.
The new ownership group have undoubtedly done a lot of good, especially off the pitch, and I am grateful for that. However, I also fear that their vision for our club could see us lose our values and identity, huge contributors to our success over the last ten years. I appeal to Dan Rice to fight to preserve our culture. I would hate to see us become some kind of soulless, corporate machine, that treats people as commodities and has no real heart to it. Yes, we want the club to go on to bigger and better things, but we can do that whilst still maintaining the family club ethics that have served us so well. Please don’t just throw all those people’s hard work and sacrifices onto the bonfire.
Sorry to start on a negative note, but I felt it deserved more than just two paragraphs.
Exceptional stuff
Thank you @Jonny_King lets hope ‘the cockoos in the nest’ read this here if they didn’t get hold of a copy of The Wanderer.
