  • I think the problem with Fred is he is so good at his best he can afford to go into cruise mode and then gets stuck in complacent mode. If he starts on the bench on Saturday he may just get the wake up call for Birmingham

How many times have we seen Fred at full throttle this season? Stockport and Shrewsbury spring to mind, but probably only a handful of games overall. The definition of a mercurial talent.

In one start, Simons now has almost exactly as many MOTM votes for the season as Leahy and Lubala (30 starts) combined. That is some way to come out of the gate!

  • Late to the party.... agree with all the comments.

Simons was fantastic last night. Head always up looking for the next pass/opportunity and if there isn't one happy to recycle the ball, find space and go again.

Back was fantastic. Looks very similar to Harvie in that he wants to get forwards and he is more than happy to get stuck into a tackle.

    My only critiques:

Scowen lacking the quality of a final pass (a few maybe moments or given away in good positions having done excellent work to get there).

Norris - surprised he just looks to hit it long the majority of the time. 50% of the time I can see he is trying to pick a long pass but 50% its aimless.

  • Yes, he won MOTM his first two games! He is 9th in total votes (out of 34 players), despite only making 6 league starts!

  • Bez I see effort and progress from, I'd maybe question his place in our first team if everyone is fit and flying but he's produced and you can't ask for more than his best, it's more difficult in a team that isn't at his best and he's played a lot recently. Fred was slow to get up to speed, had a couple of games where he looked great and sadly seems to have been pretty ineffective recently , he's talented though so that should give us hope. So much football to be played still.

  • Maybe James Berry can start to put him under a bit of pressure. Can’t wait to see what the boy can do.

  • I think he needs resting for a couple of weeks bearing mind we have cover.

He wasn't playing twice a week last season, so the extra games in the Championship may have blunted his explosive power.

  • I was momentarily flabbergasted that you’d omitted Simons. Then I realised that you rated him so highly that you felt compelled to use an abbreviated version of his forename.

If he's a cross between Xavi Hernández and Xavi Simons, we're in luck

  • Crikey. Has he been sneaking off to play the odd game for Luton.

  • But sufficiently sober to get the jokes.

  • It has been interesting to see how our player usage keeps rising. Based on players having at least one league start or gaining at least one MOTM vote as a sub, we have had the following player usage:

    21/22: 24

    22/23: 28

    23/24: 31

    24/25: 34

There may be a few missing (if a player did not start a game but made sub appearance(s) without a MOTM vote), but this still paints a pretty vivid picture of how many players we have been using, and how that number is rising each year. Reach and Berry are yet to make league appearances, too, so that could rise to 36!
