Just for the record, McCleary went three-and-a-half months without playing football in 2020. He played for Reading in late July and first game for Wycombe was in early November. Same as a pre-season!
Whilst agreeing with earlier posters that eight months without competitive football (presumably) will no doubt mean that he will need the equivalent of pre-season preparation before he’ll be ready to come off the bench, he could well prove to be yet another senior player seemingly regarded by other clubs as being past their prime who have turned out to have several more very successful seasons up their sleeves - perhaps the two most recent and most successful examples being Bayo and Gmac.
You’ll not see many sentences as long as that on the Gasroom.
Continuing the theme of continuity (which we traditionalists are anxious to preserve) I agree with @Twizz about how well he comes across. Very personable and articulate. Reassuring to see that data analysis and character assessment are not mutually exclusive when it comes to recruitment.
A very warm welcome, Adam, and here’s hoping you enjoy a long and enjoyable time at this very special club.
I think it is quite clear that certain signings (Magnus, Anders, Lowry and Reach) have been made with next season in mind. Any extra we can get out of those four this season will be a bonus.
Yes, because the subject of the clause then becomes “those senior players”. Oh God, I had no intention of extending this. Just a tiny dig at our resident grammarian. But “even Homer nods”

What an interesting signing.

From my Sheff Weds mate:
Hmm. He'll score a couple of worldies. But don't expect him to ever track his man.
I think Reach is a stop-gap cover signing until the end of the season but agreed on the other 3
The trouble with long sentences is that, separated by subordinate clauses, you can lose track of the number agreement
The number agreement?!
“Senior player … who have”
”yet another senior player” tbf. But still singular
I’ve reread it and have had no difficulty understanding it. I suppose I wouldn’t!
“….another of those senior players who have…”
Better?
Yes, because the subject of the clause then becomes “those senior players”. Oh God, I had no intention of extending this. Just a tiny dig at our resident grammarian. But “even Homer nods”
A pleasure to do business with you @OakwoodExile.
You too @micra
