I don't think I've ever seen 'humble' mentioned in a job advert. Not that I can apply anyway.

I got my Humility PhD from the School of Hard Knocks. I might give it a try.
Mind you, one of my pet peeves of the modern world is how 'humble' or 'humbling' is used instead something like 'gratifying'.
"It's so humbling to stand up here in front of thousands of people screaming my name, holding this trophy after being recognized as the greatest person on earth for the year 2024".
Gratifying. The word you are looking for is gratifying.
Mark Lamarr had a joke along the lines of "I won the world's most humble man competition. Actually, I came second but made such a fuss the winner gave me the trophy"
Sounds like ideal job for Uriah Heep!
I’m guessing the word ‘humble’ is in there to prepare the successful applicant for an extremely low wage offer.
How does anyone get the job if they go in all humble?
-Well, Mr Cooper, it says on your CV that you won the U-17 World Cup. Can you expand on that?
-I didn't really win it. It was a team effort and I was really just the bloke who put the cones out in training.
-Thank you Mr Cooper, we'll be in touch.
A lot of people around the world have trouble blowing their own trumpet, eastern Europeans in general are well known for their lack of fanfare about their exploits; it leads to them getting overlooked in multinationals where the dominant culture is often one of bigging oneself up. I can't really see the football industry bucking that trend but perhaps Wycombe have picked up on the availability of underappreciated humble folk.
Is there a chance that the big J was talking about the Chairboys when he said that the meek shall inherit the Earth?
The salary is listed at 40-45k. Now I have never worked in professional football, nor lived in west London, so have no idea if that’s a good wage for this role or not, but it doesn’t feel too low
Yup, the kind of statement for which the word “humblebrag” was coined.
The average wage in London is £47500 according to recent data.
You would struggle to live on £43000 in or around West London/Heathrow where the wages and rents are much higher than average.
A brilliant phrase. Such a shame that the guy who thought it up died.
The version that always makes me laugh is people passing a strength off as a weakness, like "my problem is that I am too forgiving" or "my problem is that I care too much."
You could very easily live outside London though, or in North East where rents are considerably cheaper.
Didn't the pizzaphile claim to be 'too honourable' in mitigation of his relationship with a certain now deceased financier from New York?
I have had the ‘pleasure’ of hanging around in the new business lounge a couple of pre / post games. Lots of young guns in tight chinos, puffa coats, fade haircuts and those shoes that look sort of like trainers with white soles. Lots of hand shakes and knowing nods and named intros. All something to do with the new order. I would not ascribe ‘humble’ to any of them. As a mate observed “cookoo’s in the nest”
How open minded are we talking, I draw the line at sock garters.
You could live in Berkshire from Harlington but I'm not sure the commute from the North East would be doable, unless you mean North East London.
People saying 45k not enough to live in NW London area? Pretty sure many thousands do even on half that wage.
Live in a HMO/house share can easily still pick.up rooms at 450-700 Ect.... money then goes far enough to even save a bit....
Indeed, there are plenty of people with no choice but to live on a much lower wage
