Bishop appears to be getting plenty of time to recover from his injury. I guess there is a want all round for him to finish the season with us. If that is the case I fully expect him to be the number one choice when thought fit enough. I think George will go out on loan in January
Thanks for the link @wingnut. Slippery ball syndrome perhaps for a couple of the Cambridge goals but we clearly need to test the ‘keeper as much as possible on Saturday. I’d like to see more long range shots than we’ve been attempting recently (well, most of the season really).
Still cannot understand why George signed for us, unless it was more money. Playing regularly for Livingston to playing no league games for us. Surely he was aware that Bishop was coming back once recovered.
I think Shrewsbury already look like they will have quite the home/away dichotomy under GA, so I expect Saturday to be tough. They really should have beaten Blackpool there in addition to Birmingham, so I am taking the Cambridge thrashing as a different category.
We need to show them absolute respect, and be as relentless as we know GA's sides can be.
Whatever happens on Saturday I hope we take a really good following to Shrewsbury. The away fans could really be a key to quietening the Shrews fans & knocking their team's fragile confidence. It's a crucial game & I hope we take well in excess of 500 fans there.
It will certainly be a very strange scenario on Saturday with Gareth and Dobbo facing up against a club they have worked at for such a long time. These two Wycombe legends will obviously be out to get the three points but it must be a strange feeling going up against the Chairboys.
Obviously I want 3 points on Saturday, but in a way I want it to be a lucky win against the run of play, so Ainsworth can tell his players that they more than matched the league leaders. The Shrews, full of confidence, can then go on a long unbeaten run ( at least until they play us again) taking points of our promotion rivals along the way.
Judging by the comments about their team from the fans...unless GA inspires a gargantuan Birmingham style effort...we should have the guile, quality and skill to overcome the Shrews.
I am very wary of this Shrewsbury game, and would feel much better if it was at home. Teams often bounce back from a thrashing as having a point to prove, and I do think we are having the tiniest bit of a wobble, form-wise.
For all the GA nostalgia, I think the return leg in the Spring is the emotional one, as him returning to AP in the opposition dugout (which used to be his anyway) will be more symbolic than us going up there.
I have complete faith in Ainsworths ability to perform miracles, but if Shrewsbury stay up this season I'll eat my hat, socks and Wycombe scarf, they are abysmal.
If MB decided to do his old boss a favour, maybe McCarthy and Wheeler could go on loan for a few months....
Am I right in saying that Gaz is a Head Coach rather than manager and that they operate a DOF structure? How much influence is he likely to have on transfers? We know that over the course of a few windows, he would normally look to build his own squad with a certain type of player coming through the door. I wonder if he will have the opportunity to do that.
Yes , you are right. Shrewsbury have a Director of Football who , from a recent article stated that he is responsible for all aspects of the football side of the club , whereas the Head Coach’s focus is solely on the first team squad and results on weekends. He also stated that he was responsible for the scouting and recruitment of players unlike the traditional way where the manager went to look and sign the players. Clearly Ainsworth is working in a different environment to what he had at Wycombe, where he was the main man.
I think GA should let Dobbo choose the next job to accept after this one. GA's choices have both fallen under "a hiding to nothing" with terrible squads not built for his style.
Much as we like to think the Shrews will let him rebuild in L2, another half a season plus of awful results will likely test that resolve. If Oxford can sack the man who took them up in the first place, GA will certainly be on the hot seat.

I'm sure he'll see your point.
Agreed. Too early to bash the bishop.

Rav isn't going to get dropped unless he has a sustained run of poor form, and I don't see that happening.

Bishop has been recovered quite some time now, yet isn't getting near the pitch.
So presumably George signed on the basis that 1st choice is up for grabs.
Agreed. It's basic gasroom knowledge that the Doc is tolerant of other views.

Is this a must win game?
If we don't win I dare say some posters will recycle some of their Bloomfield moans.
Not me though, I'll wait until the game after.

Or we could hammer them and he could say "chin up lads, we won't play anyone else that good this season!"
@trevor?
The irony of MB & the team "knowing what they are going to get from Shrewsbury" while the WWFC fans "wouldn't want to watch it every week".

Beware the man who underestimates Gareth Ainsworth.
When Fergie faced Stoke, he often put the more physical players onto the pitch.
I wonder if Bloomfield is planning similar, and Vokesy has been purposely working for this game.
I don't underestimate him and I know in a way, like the Brum game, we are a free hit at the moment.
I think he'll keep them up...if he gets some money in January!
If ever there was a game to get the big man out of retirement...
Thats exactly what the Swindon fans were saying about their team/chances....
Before they saw that our Vertu Trophy team had only met each other that afternoon.

Given the lack quality in that squad the DofF should be let go - save the salary and let Gaz and Dobbo do the job.
