You may laugh, @bargepole but that actually happened at Stockport one year. The wind literally turned from blowing behind them in the first half to blowing behind them in the second. With 6ft 7 Kevin Francis up top, and Stockport being a long-ball machine at the time, we never stood a chance, and did well to keep it to 4...
Not as daft as it sounds. I've noticed in quite a few games the opposition GK standing well beyond his penalty area. A kick from Max high and long, with wind assistance, could well bounce over his head and into the net.
No idea what source @HomerLone uses but interesting to note that wind speeds and gusts are in kph which translates into 25-30 mph steady with 50 mph gusts. Still awkward for goal kicks if they coincide with a sudden gust.
My main hope is that the surface won’t be too glutinous to pass the ball on the deck. Aerial passes could go anywhere. More so than usual, that is.
What’s one of them @YorkshireBlue ? I know about Alice of course. He’s a very good golfer. And a meme is apparently a video or image with humorous connotations. But without you relaxing your restraint we won’t be able to share the pleasure that the thought presumably gives you. Shame.

@PrinceOfCrowell is just allowing for the customary 15 mins of added time in the second half of course.
Max to score

Or spend one half booting it over the striker(s)’ heads and the other one not making barely any distance.
4.15 score and attendance prediction duly downvoted...double maths ended and phones handed back! 😉

I can believe it, I saw something similar happen in a rugby game once.
Moral of the story, if you win the toss, always play with the wind first half, you never know what may happen later.
I remember that game well, it was an awful day made worse by the 180 degree change in wind direction.
Must have been early years of our football league history when I travelled to such places for league matches.
Anyone remember Pompey away on Boxing Day 2019? It was so windy that JJ hit the bar with an *outswinging* corner.
Happened at Stevenage against us about 10 years ago, Ingram caught out.
And obviously at home to Colchester in 91-92…..
We’ve certainly seen some weather down at Fratton Park haven’t we?!
I maintain that Scott Brown's non-goal at Stevenage in 2017 was over the line
I’ve been scoring more equalisers on here lately than our recent opponents.
I reckon it could be pretty glutinous underfoot. There you are @bluntphil. Tailored for the occasion.
Manged to restrain myself from inserting an Alice Cooper meme 😁

In fact, that would be the perfect name for Neil Harman's sequel.
Not much activity on the Wigan forum but they expect a boring game with few goals.

I was pretty sure we’d beaten them since 2001.
We have a recurring theme of "oh so close" with goalkeepers almost scoring:
17-18: Brown's controversially non-goal per above.
18-19: Allsop misses a last gasp volley away to Coventry for an equalizer.
20-21: Stockdale wins a penalty with a shot (though to be fair, I think it was going wide)
We are due!
Wigan's ground is aligned nw..se, with prevailing wind south westerlies. So could be playing most of the game on one side.
May favour team attacking home end 2nd half
Why do I get the feeling the meteorological predictions are more exciting than the game itself is going to be?
More than likely to hit the subs on the bench.
Good luck to the hardy souls heading North tonight and I am wishing you a safe journey home with the three points!
I think it was our first season in what is now league 1, and the build up was about Kevin Francis vs Terry Evans
Is this the last game of Scowen’s suspension?
Unchanged XI.
I believe so, yes.
Dale Bloomfield starts again....
