Out of interest @Wendoverman , if Mark Philo had survived his tragic crash and wanted to come back to playing football with us after perhaps serving a prison sentence for causing death by dangerous driving, would that have been OK with you?
Has he asked me before? Long time since I've been quizzed by @DevC
Mark Philo was slightly before my time so no idea if his skill would have negated my feelings about employing a player under those circumstances which would be...I would not want him to return.
The details of the court case suggest to me that Ched Evans is a disgusting individual...legally innocent or not.
Joey Barton has not punched me, snubbed out a cigar on me, pushed me over or called me a Water Buffalo, but I still would not want to employ him.
My ethos is different and once they had served the punishment decreed by the court would have accepted McCormick or Philo playing fir the club. Evans continues to play today as far as I know without controversary from current or former c,lubs. I think you have to accept the verdict of courts and once sentnences are served (in the former cases) rehabilitate ex-offenders. I understand others may quite reasonably have other viewpoints. No objection from me.
I imagine if the club ever fell into the hands of a rightwing ambulance chasing American lawyer who was only interested in making a fast buck there would be OUTRAGE.
I think we are at least safe from Joey Barton ever being employed again by a football club...it looks like he has realised he can make more dosh using the Andrew Tate/Russell Brand/Lawrence Fox method of just shouting right-wing things (football based or not) on a podcast to morons...and then spend a lot of time in the media saying he's been cancelled so send him some money.
Let's all bask in the fact that everyone mentioned on here would still pass the EFL fit and proper person's ownership test, which evidently consists of a finger under the nose to make sure air is coming out.

How are his plumbing skills?
He did a decent job of DevC's patio.
Is he registered with Checkatrade?
I'm interested in what your cut off is following this line of thought.
If someone has served their sentence, should they be allowed back into any job in your opinion?
At the end of the day McCormick came back and had a decent career...as did Ched Evans.
I just would not want to watch them in our colours myself...a personal thing I know.

Ched Evans of course legally is innocent.
Why don't you use the search function to see what he said last time you asked him?
I didn't start the conversation Eric. Lets not descend into personal attacks please.

Fair enough @Wendoverman

Over and out.

Anyone else get hakuna matata stuck in their head every time they enter this thread?
For the rest of our days…
But if you had a serious water leak and Mr Barton was the only qualified plumber available, you would probably bite the bullet and employ him!
If he had good reviews on checkatrade and was willing to get on with the work and not engage me in philosophical debate, I would consider it.

Does Dev have some kind of alert go off when this subject comes up?
We already have all sorts of legal precedents for this. If you commit crimes against vulnerable individuals you can’t pass a DBS check.
But you can post on here.
Makes you think.
I think it may be some kind of app? 😂
He is renowned for his detailed spreadsheets!

It's not nice, but it's lucrative.
I would never have seen Russell Brand as right wing.

Or a finger over the mouth to keep shtumn about any unusual business practices.
Sorry to split hairs but it's the enhanced DBS check you can't pass.
There speaks the voice of experience.
