Football clubs as pubs
I saw a thread on a QPR forum about interesting pub names, and it got me thinking about what football clubs would be named if they were pubs?
A few thoughts:
Wycombe: The Elephant & Tree
Derby: The Cook & Book
MK: The Empty House
QPR: The Sham & Bull
Bristol Rovers: The Horse & Sprinkler

Liverpool: The Old Historian
pnl: Pea 'n Leek
or Oxford: The Open Ended Invitation
Swann’s wine bar
Newcastle ‘The Severed Hand’
Man City ‘The Bottomless Pit’
Birmingham City ‘Spanish Archer’
Watford ‘The Revolving Door’
Wrexham ‘The Flight of Fancy’
Watford - The Nuthouse. There is actually one in Eastbourne!
Watford - The Hail and Farewell
A pub in Burnley actually renamed itself the Royal Dyche
Bury - The Down and Out
Renamed - The Up and Coming
Bristol Rovers: The Fighting Cock (for as long as Barton is manager)
Man Utd - The Greedy Yanks
Arsenal - The Missed Opportunity
Luton - The Mad Hatters
Brighton and Hove - The Underdog Story
MK - The Stolen Beresford
Tomorrows opponents
The Grapes and Moon. (gripes and moan)
Here's a few based on existing (or recently existing) pubs. Location of pub in brackets.
Peterborough - The Grouse [Carrog, Corwen, Denbighs]
QPR - The Folly - [Emersons Green, near Bristol] N. B. Could be renamed shortly if improvements made.
MK - The Dick Turpin [Wickford, Essex & elsewhere]
Carlisle - World's End [Camden Town and elsewhere]
and, of course - WWFC - The Ace of Clubs [Ingoldmells, near Skegness - since renamed]
@LordMandeville - brilliant!
