FYI for those who may want to go kick off is 19:00 today
At this point how can you possibly make this tournament any less attractive?
EFL: Welcome to Stevenage
Expecting a strong line up tonight.
Probably Vokes, GMac, Sadlier, Keogh and Taf will start with Leahy moving back into midfield probably with Breckin
0 crowd hopefully
Is Breckin even fit? As poor as he was for one or two games, it can’t be a good look to Man City that we aren’t even giving him a spot on the bench. I would be surprised if City let us have him if we didn’t guarantee him some minutes
Glad to have the international pass which includes these games, as it was always a killer paying £10 for them, then seeing our reserves go 1-0 down after 2mins.
Actually probably suits us playing a decent team with a week and a half until the next game.
Depends what point of his development they see him as being in. We've had a couple of loanees in the past that it seemed just as much about getting amongst a proper set-up and experiencing what being a pro is like.
Understand, although being given the number 8 shirt and starting a crucial opening day game suggests he was expected to be better than that
Quite a quandary. Time will tell.
Football would be very dull if it was an exact science.
@frequentstander I think it suggests that at that point of the summer we hadn't been able to recruit exactly who we wanted, and were down on numbers due to injuries, and therefore as someone "just in from Man City" he had to start, to see what he had in his locker.
I don't see who he could have been picked ahead of since...
I think it all comes down to the fine print of the loan agreement. Normally host clubs will indicate to the parent club how much game time they are willing to give the player. That is also representative in the monthly fee (if there is one) & wage contributions to the Parent Club. If they play, the host club pays a smaller percentage to when they aren't, they'll play a higher percentage. (Again, I think injuries and suspensions don't count)
I think we go through if we win either tonight or the final game within the 90.
@frequentstander surely if ( as you admit ) he's not been much cop that's why he's not making the team. Can't see why Man City can complain.
Quite right, you might have high hopes for someone but you can't have them dictate when he plays, and it wouldn't do him or them any good for him to be chucked in where the coaching staff who see him every day feel he needs more work or he isn't performing. Development isn't always at a set rate, he's not had real first team football before, much too early to draw conclusions too.
All those clauses make sense where you've done a Chelsea and spent £15m on a proven player from another league who needs to play to adjust but it isn't practical for a club like us to have 5 or 6 loanees who must play every game regardless of form or fitness.
How do lower profile clubs gather bargaining power? Dale Taylor had 14 professional clubs after him. It would be slightly naive to think that clubs don’t use ‘guaranteed ‘x’ minutes’ in their loan negotiations. Man City won’t allow him to sit on our bench all season. Perhaps our form of bargaining was a recall clause in January for Breckin. Perhaps it was guaranteed playing time. Perhaps it was nothing. But it would be daft to not consider the wider ramifications of each transfer/loan.
Fantastic opportunity for Skura playing alongside Keogh and Taff. Exactly the sort of game Breckin probably needs too.
And I hope he has an absolute blinder forcing himself onto the bench at least in the next set of fixtures.
NICK FREEMAN starts for Stevenage
That is a fun lineup - a mixture of massive experience and very little experience.
I presumed that Philips was on international duty. I was also wondering what has happened to Christie Ward?
I thought Skura looked very promising in the first match against Palace youngsters
I was very put out that Ward didn't play in the last match, only for someone to tell me he's injured ! Assume he must still be ? A bit annoying that the club havnt told us about it though, thought they'd been a bit better on the injury news front this season.
I heard it was an ACL. Very bad news if true
Nick Freeman starts for Stevenage. This is going to be a little weird!
Who’s been eating all the pies!
Excuse me. Who is the cockney Co-com ?
