you'd think, wouldn't you, but a minority of idiots have a nasty habit of pulling out the "Wycombe reject" chant for literally any player who's ever turned out for us unless they're on a genuine legend level.
How do you know he didn't want to return? And instead we said no, having Phillips, Sadlier and Taylor as back up to the main 3, with De Barr, Wheeler and probably someone else i'm forgetting in there too?
I really don't think it's a big loss. Maybe he isn't fit, or maybe we can't afford to have him AND Vokes on the payroll with only one of them playing each week.
I believe that was the case.... from what I read at least.... since then however we have moved to bring in the likes of Taylor and sadlier... other players said to hopefully contain attacking football and potentially goals
I guess time will tell. If he’s in double figures come May I’ll stick my neck out and say will be ahead of our top scorer. But like AAH2.0 it’s all about a system and whether they build around him.
Tbh from results/ goals based information.... I think I'd have rathered we kept hold of AAH than taken an outside punt on Uche a second time round.... AAH has been scoring goals.... Uche has done nothing of note
It’s hard to argue that letting AAH2.0 was a good call. But clearly the management rated our existing strikers as more likely to get goals than the guy who had been prolific through his youth career and has kicked on very nicely since.
Isn't it funny how some players just excel at certain clubs but fail miserably at others?
Examples.... a thought Stewart Beavon would kick on after leaving us.... didn't happen for him...
Most of us probably always thought extremely highly of Anthony Stewart... always a supreme defender for us... left once.. didn't work out at all.... came back... we forgave him and understood why he tried to advance his career.. came back to us.... fan favourite once again... our best CB...once again he tries to progress his career.... once again.... it all went to shit.
Other way around... Elliot Benyon.... Wycombe born and raised.... family home was 5 mins walk from Adams Park.. (I was best mates with his older brother at primary school)
Absolutely prolific for Torquay.... banging them in all over the place.
We sign him.... wow.... he went down as one of the worst strikers we ever signed...
I admire players that know where their bread is buttered and don't try to push their luck for more fame and more money.
I guess the prime example of someone that found "his club" and has stuck it out through thick and thin is Jamie Vardie.
Anyone with the big bucks would have taken him after the prem title winning season. Yet he's still there now while they ply their trade in the championship years and years later.
Beavon was a strange one - looked threatening in his first few seasons with us without really delivering goals, and then hit 20+ out of nowhere, got his move and never scored more than 7 goals in a season after that.
Like you say, sometimes it just clicks for a player. Kashket’s run a few seasons ago is another decent example, and the original AAH was untouchable towards the end of the 14/15 season where we lost against Southend.

I knew roughly what was coming, but Port Vale?!
Bit of an anticlimax isn't it
I'm waiting for Wycombe fans on twitter to have a meltdown
Nice that he will be able to enjoy some applause at AP when we play them and his name is read out. The very least he deserves.
Uche that hurts

Frig me!
That's a shame. If Port Vale are paying more than us they must be hoping for promotion. Pity he did not want to return to though.

I think Port Vale's recruitment has been very good. Good luck to him. (Although I hope he's injured when we play them.)
Steady @Malone I makes no claims to be ITK. It would be a pity if he did not want to come back. (Better?) 😉

I this was a thread about Stoke on Trent council at first
Seems they found the money to pay the sneaky fee squirrelled in there

Careful with the emoticons, the doc will get the fun police out on you.
Ps on a sketchy ITK basis, my Reading pal is adamant Wing is on 1.4k a week there as part of their financial restrictions.
Surely he can't possibly have been on less than that here?
I think we could have had him if we wanted him.
I reckon blooms hedged his bets on Vokes this season. Uche and vokes just wouldn't fit in a front 2.
Neither would wanna bench warm.
Vokes and Hanlan is a bit like the old days of devine and mcsporran..... vokes and uche just wouldn't work I feel
He’s on more than that at Reading
Not sure what happened but we were always front runners for Uche until a messy situation with his former club.
I heard he was hopelessly unfit having not played at all in a while and not much in the last 18 months. Otherwise would surely have had more takers.

Ohhhhh.... that will be controversial....
🤣

John Sutton comes to mind. Banging in the goals in scotland. Looked to be an incredible signing and then...

Dayle Southwell came from Boston with 50+ goals, maybe scored a couple for us.
Bumped into Anthony Stewart the other day. Really good guy and would happily take him back when his contract expires in the summer
Benyon was a decent striker at league 2 and conference levels at his peak we were in league 1 when he came to us.
