  • Exactly the words of the carpet on a recent Delta Airlines flight from the US to Barcelona. For anyone who is bemused rather than amused, and likes the sort of story suggested by the comment and the following link 😮 - here is a link that is not behind a paywall and has some detail -

  • Many years ago my Dad and his partner were seated in economy at the back of (last seats before the toilets) a 747 BA flight to Canada from London. About two hours in, a pale sweating man came lurching down the aisle towards them. A few rows away from them he clamped a hand over his mouth but alas this did not prevent him vomiting what was later discovered to have been a full fry up and a couple of pints of Guiness onto my father’s hairless head. I’m told my father leapt up from his seat and uttered a number of profanities whilst the vomitous passenger mumbled apologies through several secondary, and splattery, gastric emissions.

Cabin crew arrived post haste and my father was encased in a blanket and escorted behind the curtains. Warm water, soap and towels were procured and he was gently sponged clean before being given a fresh shirt from the supply kept for cabin crew unfortunate enough to be pouring coffee when turbulence strikes.

He and his partner were then ushered up to the first class bar and treated to a bottle of BA’s finest onboard champagne. Seats were found and all first class amenities were made available. As the flight continued over northern Canada en route to Vancouver, they were invited to the cockpit for a personal apology from the Captain and First Officer and given the opportunity to chat for some while and try out the Captain’s chair.

On leaving the plane another clean shirt was given, along with a second bottle of bubbly, and on arrival at the terminal my Dad’s partner was presented with flowers by the BA staff and arrangements made for a first class upgrade for the return flight.

For some years after that when sitting with my foil tray dinner, wedged between a manspreader and a sleep drooler, I would hope that a fellow passenger might mistake me for a bathroom receptacle but times have changed and, from reading that article, I fear not for the better when it comes to caring for the befouled customer.
