  • On Wednesday I went to watch Kidlington play Oxford Utd in the Oxon Senior Cup. Despite it being essentially the Oxford academy team the attendance was a good 4x the usual gate and added to the healthy bar takings will have made a huge impact on Kidlington's finances while giving the young Oxford players a run out against a men's team. Whatever we think of them Oxford do seem to work hard to ingrain themselves in the community around the county.

I can sympathise with the club for this if there genuinely aren't the players to cope with all the fixtures without risking injuries but it still feels like a wrong move. That Long Crendon game was a real joy to attend for so many reasons.

  • The one in which Jack Young controlled midfield. I really hope he soon makes the bench. Christie Ward too.

  • Yes, he was excellent that night, while Anis looked a class above in the 1st half. Had forgotten that Al Hamadi scored for us that night. And we donated our share of the record gate receipts to Long Crendon which will have endeared us to many local grassroots fans.

  • clapping his hands and shouting 'Come on this is shite!' ?

  • I could just about wield the bucket and sponge from the dugout.

  • Trevor would obviously be in the Dean Morgan role, ambling around offside and moaning at his team mates.

  • Ah, but does The Gasroom have The Player to score goals within our ranks?

    @eric_plant maybe?

@wingnut is the obvious choice for playing out wide.

  • I reckon Eric could occupy two defenders but only score once in a blue moon. That increase in our expected occupied defenders (xOD) means he should start every game though apparently.

Surely @Blueword would be manager like Neil Warnock? Telling every single person they are crap, they could easily do it better, being a mental on the touchline and then trying to appear "normal" in front of the press that they "love" only to sod off and manage our rivals?

  • Your understanding of the game seems to have improved, well done

  • Only the name has been changed.

  • xOD supposedly wins games, it’s the only stat that matters.

  • I wonder if the trend of conceding late goals is linked to our lower xOD after we’ve made substitutions.

  • Don’t suppose anyone could translate xOD into English for the benefit of those of us that are not versed in the latest statistical/analytical terminology could they ?

  • Performances are more important than points. Probably. Until we get to February at least! 😉

  • It was a made up stat, don't remember who by, stands for expected occupied defenders @micra.

  • Tonight's Fourth Round result.

    Maidenhead United 4-0 Milton United.

HT 2-0, goals from Shawn McCoulsky (3) and Jaydn Dundas. The Magpies host MK in the quarter-finals.

Tomorrow night Winslow visit Risborough to complete the Third Round. If the match is postponed again, both teams will cede to Marlow in the next round, who would go straight through to the semi-finals on a bye.

  • Tonight's Third Round Result.

Risborough Rangers 1-1 Winslow United (90 mins, Winslow win 5-4 on penalties).

Rangers took the lead through Jeremiah Luwero, Nathan Amaning equalised to make it 1-1 at half-time. A repeat of the cupset last season, when Winslow beat Risborough 2-0 in the first round of the competition. The Ploughmen now face Marlow at home in the Fourth Round.

The other remaining Fourth Round tie sees Reading City host Flackwell Heath on 13 February.

  • Tonight's Fourth Round matches have been postponed.

    Reading City v Flackwell Heath

    Winslow United v Marlow

  • Maidenhead United have withdrawn from the this year's competition, citing fixture congestion and the possible date of the final.

"Club Announcement - Berks & Bucks Senior Cup | Maidenhead United has taken the difficult decision to withdraw from the @BerksandBucksFA Senior Cup for the 2023/24 season. Our fixture against @MKDonsFC on Tuesday 27th February 2024 will therefore not take place.

We understand the disappointment this decision will cause, however we've reached a congested stage of the season due to the recent inclement weather and rearrangement of fixtures. Our priority is to ensure the wellbeing and availability of both first team and academy players.

There is also considerable uncertainty regarding the date of the BBFA Cup Final with the possibility of being scheduled in mid-May, over 3 weeks after the end of our season, meaning we would be unable to field a team for the final were we to progress that far.

We thank the BBFA and MK Dons for their understanding and we wish all clubs remaining in the competition the very best of luck for the remainder of the 2023/24 competition."

  • All the so called ‘big clubs’ are dropping out now.

  • Tonight's Fourth Round result.

Flackwell Heath 2-2 Reading City, after 90 minutes, Flackwell win 3-2 on penalties. HT 0-1, att. 145.

  • Tonight's quarter-final result.

Burnham 0-2 Reading Academy (HT 0-0). Scorers: Joe Barough, Jahmari Clarke.

Beaconsfield Town host Flackwell Heath in the other quarter-final match, date TBC.

MK have a bye to the semi-finals, as do the winners of Winslow United v Marlow in the Fourth Round, which is scheduled for next Tuesday. Winslow have had so many matches postponed due to the rain, and more rain to come over the next two days.

  • The Winslow v Marlow match tomorrow night will now be played at Marlow.

  • Tonight's Fourth Round result.

    Marlow 4-0 Winslow United.

HT 3-0, goals from Dawid Rogalski (2) and Dave Tarpey (2).

  • Still banging them in. Remarkable.

  • Beaconsfield and Flackwell play next Tuesday.

  • Flackwell Heath secure their spot in the semis with a cupset win at 10-man Beaconsfield Town (1-1 after 90mins, 5-4 on pens).
