I don't think overall (and obviously once you get past 11 in squad numbers) they are the indicators they used to be, but in the lower leagues I think they are often a rough guide. For example, last season the following numbers would have been somewhat "traditional" to my understanding.
1 - Stryjek GK
2 - Grimmer RB
3 - Jacobson LB
5 - Forino CB
6 - Tafazolli CB
4 - Scowen DM
8 - Butcher CM
9 - Scowen CF
11 - Campbell LW/Wide forward
So it was really only Wheeler as 7 (and let's face it, almost any number suits him!), Leahy as 10 that did not 100% adhere to the traditional numbers in the starting 11.
Interesting to see what our squad looks like now and how many out in June and those in during this window?
We lost:
Max, JJ, Forino, Potts, Taylor, Lonwijk, Kodua, Campbell. 8 and there may be more I missed.
In so far - Bishop, Bakinson, The Exeter lad and Harvie. 4 and I have omitted the development lads. We also seem close to signing Udoh which would take that to 5 if completed.
So maybe a few loanees to bulk up the squad a bit.
I can't say how accurate it is as I've never particularly paid much attention to Udoh, but I like the way they actually try and add in some analysis and thought rather than just regurgitating a transfer rumour for the sake of it like so many sites.
What would (Udoh) bring to Wycombe?
Currently, Wycombe have three strikers on the books Sam Vokes, Brandon Hanlan and Richard Kone. Brandon is currently returning from a long-term injury that he suffered last season, while this will be Richard’s first full season of professional football having joined from Athletic Newham. Sam Vokes provides a physical presence to the front line but it may be difficult to rely on him week in and week out now being 34 so Udoh in my opinion would be a similar type of striker to Sam Vokes in terms of physical attributes.
Bloomfield played with a couple of different systems last season, as they ended the season strongly finishing 10th place, he seemed to settle with a 4-2-3-1 shape rotating Vokes and Kone, meaning if he was to continue this shape there would be a lot of competition for places which can only be a good thing.
Wycombe like Shrewsbury doesn’t have a lot of the ball (18th on average last season), which Daniel will be used to from his time at Shrewsbury, however, Wycombe were 8th in terms of xG creating more high-quality chances which will be a huge benefit to someone like Udoh.
Another one through the door. Starting to take shape. How much room for more players do we still have in terms of maximum squad size.? Am I right that players under 21 , do not qualify in terms of the limit.
As reluctant as I am to view a Franchise forum, Harvie leaving has its own thread on one of them. Mixed reviews but some positivity.
From what I can glean they were playing him out of position as a CB for some time (which is not his position) and I think any lack of enthusiasm comes from that, rather than necessarily that he's not a good player. LB and CB are clearly pretty different skill sets, so fair enough.

Versatile according to this...

Music to my ears, thanks! We have a thing for versatility!
We really don’t need a reserve team or academy when we’ve got Shrewsbury.
I like Shrewsbury, but they are certainly making me feel good about this:
The Taming of the Shrews, or something.
Shrewsbury are an excellent feeder club for us.
It must be pretty galling for the Shrews, consistently losing first team players to us - we're very similar sized clubs.
Altho it’s worth remembering that the last player Twitter had us definitely signing is now at Charlton.
He's a free agent, so suggests either he wasn't offered a new contract or he wants to try playing elsewhere. Much like with us and Forino.
Players move from club to club it's a fact of football. They need to get over it.
According to the Shrewsbury side he was offered one but Wycombe offered more
Just signed Daniel Harvie. Announced on Instagram
Is one of the criteria for joining, they must, repeat MUST have scored against us.
At least we are getting goal scorers in!
“The data tells us that playing as a full-back will complement his strengths as well”.
Moneyball has started.
Left back perhaps? Has played as a wingback for the dongs and has a similar scoring rate to JJ. 26 next week.

Seems like a great addition, squad is shaping up very nicely. Presume he's first choice LB now to free up Luke to play in midfield.
Dumbarton young player of the year 2017. You can't argue with that.
He's played well against us before. Liking the business so far.
Wikipedia has him as 5’11” but, unless Matt Bloomfield has shrunk a lot in the rain, he looks well over 6’.
Like that line a lot.
Much better than the days you'd just send some old bloke in a mac to watch him play.
I always have to check it's a post from you when you call Mk that. Very unlike your usual distinguished gent demeanour.
Harvie went for a fee (undisclosed as ever) according to this:

Asked a Shrewsbury fan I know about Udoh and he said he'd been absolutely gutted if he left. Reckons he's one of the best strikers they've had
I remember Harvie at Ayr United - he won player of the season.

Just seen the caption is "Giving us a sporting advantage down the left-hand side". Excellent work from the media team once again
