When Cloughie came to town the first time
Definitely gonna show my age with this post.
we all know that “Old Big Head” brought his Nottingham Forest first team squad down to the Chairopolis for the inaugural game at Adam’s Park
is anybody here old enough to remember going to a hastily arranged mid week friendly I reckon either late 68 or early 69(I remember Loakes Park had a dusting of snow) between our Isthmian league minnows and the high flying division 2 Rams ( division II, of course, meaning championship in today’s money) ?
I believe the game was arranged because Derby were training for a few days at Bisham Abbey, something a lot of teams did back in the day Our manager ,Brian Lee ran Bisham Abbey as his day job. Handily placed to get such things arranged
certainly don’t want a repeat tomorrow of the scoreline that night, which if I remember, was six nil in favour of our visitors.
The majority of the Derby team that played that night went on to win the old first division championship for them in 1972.

A good memory @Mr67, 12 Feb 1969, a 6-0 win for the Rams.

Clough: "We were very pleased with the work-out they gave us."
Dave Mackay in the Derby team, wow, one of my boyhood heroes. I saw him play at White Hart Lane and would loved to have seen him at Loakes Park, but before my time.
One of the highlights of the evening for me was watching Dave Mackay being outwitted by a bouncing ball that moved in a unnatural path. He tried kicking the ball and missed it completely. When the Derby team was announced pre-match I could not believe how strong the team was. My first game watching Wycombe Wanderers. Happy days !!.
