David Wheeler. Sans doute.
Wheeler was immense today - others played well but he was head and shoulders our standout player.
After having had difficulty for so long in understanding what David Wheeler brings to the table, it is a source of great satisfaction to be able to acknowledge his brilliance in a role that really suits him - box to box.
Wheeler, no question. Although fat fingers means I voted for Wing. 👎
Nick Freeman’s mum at the game again.
Wheeler, Wing & Scowen excellent in the midfield three. Taf also strong at the back and Max solid between the sticks.
One for the holding/defensive players today. Didn’t think I’d be saying that after the dreadful defending for their first after only 4 minutes.
Obita, whilst not setting the world alight, had his best game in a while too. Some lovely overlapping play and uncharacteristically actuate crossing.
Or @Shev🎅
Toughest motm of the season in my opinion. Four or five were all deserving. I’ll go with Stryjek. Calmness personified. Tone management in key moments of the game was spot on. Some dodgy kicks at times, but in the key moments of the game he was outstanding.
Touche! It was not me though - I went with Wheeler. I'll cop to being a massive fan of Freeman, however!
Wheeler for me, the chase back and block near the end of the 1st half along with his goal did it for me. A few misplaced passes but they all did early doors. Scowen got better and better and better as the game went on too.
Only half way through obviously but I think this is shaping up to be David Wheeler’s best season in a Wycombe shirt.
A few weeks back Gareth and Dobbo seemed to be grappling for a formation that worked, and in many ways it’s been Wheeler that’s helped knit it all together.
Couldn’t be happier for him (and all of us!!).
Wheels is an odd one isn’t it? You don’t often think of him when he’s out, but he quickly becomes indispensable when he’s playing.
Completely agree with this. And I was a particularly vocal (virtually vocal…) Wheeler critic. He’s torn my opinions to shreds. Absolutely brilliant recently.
I voted Wheels but on reflection wish I’d voted Thomo - just because
Wheeler today. A great team performance but he was all round great.
I have said this before, but a team of 11 Wheelers would beat a team of 11 of any of our other players, with perhaps only Mawson coming close.
Well at least we know that a team of Wheelers would never be signed by a certain manager of Bristol Rovers!
The keeper for me. He is my player of the half season completed thus far.
That's the team talk sorted when we play the reverse fixture! 🤷♂️
Wheeler was fantastic again. Great movement for the goal, some really smart pressing, and the aerial ability we’ve come to expect from him.
Agree with @Theatre_of_Chairs that he has really helped to make the formation work and knitted the team together nicely.
One of the first names in the teamsheet at the moment (behind maybe Stryjek and Scowen), which is a testament to how well he has done.
