Sorry to ruin everyone's weekend, but it's Gavin Ward
I'm sure he won't recognize the new way Wycombe will be playing, no 'game management' or over physicality to name but two!
Oh yes and our new wider pitch.🙄
Sorry @ReturnToSenda. remind me why I should remember Gavin Ward?
Think back to Norwich (A), QPR (H) and Sheff Wed (A) in the Championship
Genuine question: do the FA/EFL/whoever send someone to every ground with one of those measuring wheels to check each club's pitch dimensions every summer?
And here we are worrying about who will play in goal, some things are beyond our control.
When I was involved with local youth football and laying out our pitches, I inquired/looked up (don't recall) the FA rules/Laws on pitch size. As far as I could make out, as long as you can fit in the 18yd boxes, the D's and the center circle without touching each other, then that's it!! Obviously, we give more space than that but I'm sure the EFL/FA don't measure all pitches unless referees and managers comment.
Ah! Do I have to! Thanks though
Yes they do. They need to inspect all the facilities to ensure they meet all the criteria (hence the massive rush to get things done the season we got promotion to Championship). If the ground doesn't meet the grade, a club has 2 options. 1) Fix / build whatever it needs to be done or 2) Arrange a ground share agreement
The FA will have a maximum measurement. It'll be the EFL / Premier League competition rules that clubs will have to meet
Makes sense - thanks!
@ReturnToSenda They also go around to all of the lower leagues as well to do a ground grading. If a club doesn't have the right facilities / grading, they are refused promotion for that season (that's what happened to Risborough Rangers this season)
Was gonna say.
Surely for most of us it takes real outrageous reffing to remember them?
Maybe Fraser Stretton, Gurnham Singh, Phil Prosser for 3 notorious ones over the year.
Maybe we should sue him too?
What ever happened with the DCFC case?
He was outrageous on numerous occasions!
Will the ref get the teamsheet before 2pm?
Ref lived up to expectations - glad we won comfortably despite his clear dislike for giving us penalties
I think it was right before Mehmeti's wonder goal, but Vokes was absolutely bumped off the ball right in front of the ref.
Sometimes it's easier for the ref to not bother giving stuff.
Was the mehmeti one in the first minute or so a pen? Looked like one but I haven't seen it again.
stonewall ...ref bottled it as it was so early on in the match . he was such a poor ref
Never get this "I didn't give it as it was so early in the match" comment. Do the rules not apply in the 1st few minutes then? 🤔
judging by the bbc figures there was a really low foul count in our game (6 x 6). Either both sides were unusually ‘clean’ or Mr Ward was interpreting the new guidance in a generous way.
for info most games were double that but the Plymouth foul count (2 v 15) must have been a frustrating one for Barnsley fans (however justified)
I thought so
I did too but haven't seen any footage of it yet to confirm.
He didn't turn up until about the 70th minute, Def not until after the game was all but done, he let lots go. Maybe good for entertainment to let it flow a bit but not good for the blood pressure when he ignores blatant pushes and decent pen shouts.
He more or less rugby tackled him
Thankfully, it didn't affect the result
I’ve never heard (or seen quoted) a referee saying that @EwanHoosaami !! But I know what you mean. It’s often felt by fans that referees are reluctant to make such important decisions within minutes of kickoff.
The rules certainly do apply of course. But, at times, Gavin Ward does seem to be a law unto himself.
The loudmouth in our stand screamed "anywhere else on the pitch that's a penalty".
Those well known fouls on the half way line being penalties 😀
Yes, heard that in the upper tier Frank Adams on a rare visit up there. Seem to be far more attempts at commentary and distance coaching from up there than the shouting and cheering of the terrace.
We knew what he meant, but he's such an arrogant loud mouth it was a comedy one.
That’s a cracker @Malone. I miss all that.
