Wycombe Scum!
I was walking through a rough area of a northern city yesterday wearing my Wycombe shirt, when a couple of yobs walking towards me glared at me and one said agressively, "Wycombe scum!" Assuming they were joking, I laughed and walked on but looked round after a few paces (just in case) and they had turned round too and were looking daggers at me. I didn't react but made it clear that I wasn't one to be intimidated and they walked off. I'm quite pleased really. It's good to know people care about us these days.

Agree with that - although sometimes it is justified!
I do worry for Gaz's safety if we ever have to go to Bramall Lane - I don't think he's been back since the incident?
Rather tenuous that they hate a club that had nothing to do with the incident.
I've heard all about this from a Sheffield United fan but the two that shouted abuse at me were only about twenty so wouldn't even remember it. I suppose they might have heard. Anyway, it's good to know that they recognise our shirt. Wycombe fans over a certain age are used to having to explain what it is.
The club clearly recognised this risk in 2011/12, as he didn't play in either of the Sheffield United games, but played in the games before and after

I recall at the time the club made up some "Knock" or other, but it was very clearly a political move to remove him from the toxic atmosphere, even in the home game.
Have we not played them while he's been manager?
Our season in the Championship coincided with one of their brief sojourns in the PL.

It seems as tho there are wrong's on both sides of this situation. Gaz obvs did the tackle and caused the player so much hurt through the recovery while there appears to be a lack of communication between the two. However, it was a very different time where communication wasn't easy and wasn't very quick either. I do believe that Gaz would have sent a letter but I also believe Dane when he says it was never received. Do you think Gaz hasn't played against Sheff Utd as a form of an apology / respect to the Dane or the fact that he's nervous over the fans' ill-feeling towards him?
Whereas Dane Whitehouse has prob been too honest in the podcast interviews and appears to be still hung up on the situation. The saying "I don't hold a grudge" was used several times but then admitted that he would go for him if Gaz was to walk into the same room and admitting that people would happily assault him if he said the word. All the while Sheff Utd have just sat back and let this situation build and build.
I think that this needs to be addressed by Gareth, make the effort, reach out and apologise, either verbally on the phone or in person. If Gareth was fully aware of the hurt that Dane still feels, I believe that he would look to resolve the situation in a way he sees fit.
There would certainly need to be something put in place if we do ever play them again with him as manager.
Not as easy to avoid a game when you're manager!

And Pickford played against Liverpool the same season as putting Van Dyke out for a year with a horrific challenge.
It's probably a problem that being so many years ago and seemingly no footage out there, that the challenge has earnt almost mythical status of "badness".
It can't be worse than Jason Cousins's x-rated tackle against Doncaster in 1993
That was a terrible challenge, but due to the angle actually did next to no damage.
The player got up instantly, with only a cursory glance at his leg in the way you might if slightly brushing against brambles.
The ref even gave a yellow for it!
