Local Non-League news + play-offs

After the dust has settled on a dramatic afternoon at Adams Park there were several important local matches played today with a bearing on titles & play-offs.

In the Spartan South Midlands League Premier division the top 2 met in a title shoot-out. It finished Risborough Rangers 0 New Salamis 2. Two second-half goals ended Rangers’ title hopes in front of a 410 crowd.

Meanwhile Chesham United thrashed already-relegated Wimborne Town 5-0 in front of 651 at the Meadow. Sadly for the Generals they missed the play-offs by one point as Weston-super-Mare beat Harrow Borough 2-1 to clinch the last spot. Taunton Town won the league, defeating Farnborough 2-1 in front of a crowd of 2,303 in Somerset.

Next Tuesday/Wednesday sees the play-off semi-finals in the Southern & Isthmian Leagues. Tuesday night sees Berkhamsted host Welwyn Garden City in the Division One Central play-offs (7.45) while AFC Dunstable host Ware in the other tie.

On Wednesday night there are 2 play-off semi-finals in the Isthmian League South Central division. Bedfont Sports host Hanwell Town while Chertsey Town entertain Basingstoke Town.

A very busy end to the season with lots of play-off finals on May Bank Holiday Monday.

  • In a change of opponent on Tuesday, Berkhamsted now play North Leigh in the Southern League Division One Central play-off semi-final. North Leigh (who finished 6th) take the place of Welwyn Garden City (who finished 5th) as the latter’s ground failed the necessary ground grading requirements for the Southern League Premier Division. Hard luck for WGC but having seen a game recently at WGC I can say their ground is “fairly basic”.
