  • Why would we? Vokes has an extra year.

  • Seems to be hitting worldies most weekends, will have a good few interested if he's going on a free.

  • Oh he's a great player and probably worth a go in the Champ, just not for us at the moment

We are saying goodbye to Bayo so there’s at least one vacancy for a prolific striker.

Stockton needs to start and he's not gonna do that here! Would be ideal if we could bring in a young heir to Vokes to learn from the master.

  • We’re signing the Cambridge centre forward aren’t we?

  • @Right_in_the_Middle is that on the basis of Gaz having a long chat to him as they left the pitch last Tuesday?

  • Ainsworth did have a long chat with Paul Hayes when he played for Scunthorpe against us.

Ironside is a bit short for a Wycombe forward though.

  • He's 5'11

  • Huge concern over Ironside's mobility

    Cool name though.

  • I don’t know much about Stockton, but he looks like exactly the sort of player we should be after.

Wheeler could help him out with that.

Would add some mettle to the squad though.

  • Surely Ironside is already a chairboy?

Just made me spit out my tea!!! Good work

Have we announced that we're extending then?

  • He is scoring, looks like he's enjoying his football, getting some punditry and given his career cannot be short of a few bob so wherever we are I can see Vokes staying.

  • You can never have too many goal scorers in your squad with injuries and suspension always a potential problem.

No, but I think it's a case of just triggering the extension as we did with Anis after his first year. Obvs someone could still come in and buy him after that, but unlikely.

For sure, but Stockton isn't going to go and sit on the bench somewhere. Ironside potentially a good option, but I'd still like us to go younger.

  • Ironside was a chairboy too

  • I continue to be baffled by the assertion that we shouldn't be going out to try and sign really good players because they might not start every game if we play in a specific way.

  • Always good to have a variety of strikers, sure they'll both be injured at times and could play together at other times, can't imagine we'll be first in the queue anyway as usual.

It's a rule for fans that a chairman will show no ambition, until he shows ambition in which case: what is he thinking????
If we don't get promoted players will either leave (any good) or stay (not good enough) and inflate our wage bill. This is why if I ever had the money I would NEVER buy a football club.

  • But signing Stockton would be signing another main 9 and that's just not realistic

Without seeing the budget, what division we are in or who else is coming in or going out that's not as obvious as it sounds, and he must play deeper at times as he seems to score from the half way line fairly regularly at the moment. Vokes seems to rarely get 90 also so while we're fine with Hanlan a bit more firepower is always good, especially if we were to go up.

  • Nobody thought Bayo would play more than cameo when he came in as Hayes was unmovable and only a few weeks ago people though everything revolved round three at the back going forward, no harm in keeping an eye on a few different players, you never know

You always have to look ahead and plan for every eventuality. We don’t know if Sam Vokes will stay, perhaps he doesn’t want to or because we receive an acceptable bid for him. If he stays he could get injured and at the moment we don’t have any other striker (other than the soon to retire Bayo) anywhere near his calibre. I would be delighted if we signed Stockton based on his record this season.
BTW (sorry Micra!), this is all speculation anyway.
