Easter Saturday football

With Wycombe in action on Good Friday there’s a chance to catch up on some local games on Easter Saturday. Hopefully the lack of Non-League fixtures on Good Friday will help swell the gate at Adams Park with lots of semi-pro footballers able to watch the match. Here’s a list of Easter Saturday fixtures locally (3pm kick-offs):

SOUTHERN LGE PREMIER SOUTH:

Beaconsfield Town v Merthyr Town
Chesham United v Gosport Borough

SOUTHERN LGE DIV ONE CENTRAL:

Berkhamsted v Harlow Town
Thame United v Ware

SPARTAN STH MIDS LGE PREMIER:

Risborough Rangers v Holmer Green

** Just a reminder it’s MK Franchise v Sheffield Wednesday on Sky in the evening (7.45 k.o.)

  • Congratulations to Risborough Rangers and New Salamis, who were guaranteed promotion yesterday. Rangers are second, three points behind with two games in hand. The two meet at Windsors on the last day of the season.

Holmer Green have picked up eight points from the last five games, and have moved up to third from bottom, three points clear of London Colney and with a game in hand.

With Sam Wood turning out in the away end yesterday, I had a look at the site of his current club Cray Wanderers and how they were doing.

    https://www.cray-wanderers.com/

Scrolling down on that page, is it me, or is that a really odd format of a league table?
No column for overall points (probably THE key info), and the home/away split produced first!?

  • It's just not formatting correctly, far right cropped off

  • Chesham are one point outside the play-offs, with a game in hand. They have three games left, including a visit to table toppers Hayes & Yeading.

Beaconsfield lie 16th out of 22.

Berko are second, five points behind Bedford Town. With three games left, they will probably finish second, which will give them home advantage in the play-offs.

Thame are eighth and will miss out on the play-offs.

Well exactly, but that is the one key column beyond team name! And not helped by the home/away stuff either.

  • Thanks @A_Worboys . I hadn’t realized the Southern league games were on Saturday rather than Friday.
Already committed to Buckland (a) on Friday and a home game on Monday as the mighty lambs of Tavistock close in on their first ever promotion to the Southern League but may pop down to Plymouth Parkway on Saturday as they seek to clinch Southern Lg Div 1.
Any ideas what I could do on Sunday?…..

  • Penn are at home to Amersham on Friday @ 7:30 fwiw

London Colney play Holmer Green this Tuesday (at Colney Heath)

  • Tuesday week (April 19th) is a big night in the Spartan South Midlands League with the following matches (all 7.45pm kick-offs):

Aylesbury Vale Dynamos v Oxhey Jets
    Flackwell Heath v Harefield United
    Holmer Green v Leverstock Green
    Tring Athletic v Risborough Rangers

Some very important games in prospect - none more so than Risborough Rangers visiting the Grassroots Stadium, Cow Lane, Tring.

On Tuesday night (April 12th) Risborough Rangers entertain Harefield United in the league. So over the next 10 days Risborough will play their 2 games in hand over New Salamis that may well determine the outcome of the league.

A real footy fest over Easter!!!!

  • Easter Saturday? That'll be 23rd April won't it!

  • What? Easter Saturday is 16/4/22.

Church folk will say that this Saturday is Holy Saturday - this being Holy Week.
Easter week for them starts on Easter Sunday and ends on Easter Saturday - the 23rd.

  • Isn't there usually a discussion about the 3pm kickoff time being an affront to Jesus or is that the Monday game?

  • Nah, Jesus campaigned tirelessly to stop 3pm kick-offs being moved for TV

  • Tonight:

Risborough Rangers 2 Harefield United 0

  • If you fancy another game after WW v Plymouth on Good Friday, Penn & Tylers Green are at home to Amersham Town in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One (kick-off 7.30pm).

  • Weekend results:

    Thursday 14th April:
Spartan South Mids League Div One:

Penn & Tylers Green 3 Amersham Town 2

    Saturday 16th April:

Beaconsfield Town 3 Merthyr Town 4
Chesham United 4 Gosport Borough 2

Spartan South Mids League Div One:

What a beautiful day to catch some Non-League football. Any match reports?

  • Didn’t go but great comeback by Chesh against Gosport, looks in their hands now.

Beaconsfield are an odd team but well worth the entrance fee for the number of goals served up on a regular basis.

Chalfont St Peter also played today, beating Northwood 1-0 in the Isthmian South Central. They currently occupy what looks like a relegation play-off position at the bottom but couldn’t figure the table out on Football Web Pages. Either way, they’re well adrift with only two to play, and haven’t been the same since long-serving manager Danny Edwards left. Looks like it’s back to the ‘local’ leagues for them.

Risborough (now featuring Josh Parker!) are up but will their ground be up to requirements and do they know what league they’ll be in? I remember reading something about upgrades but can’t recall the detail.

  • I saw 2nd placed Winslow United lose 3-2 at home to 3rd from bottom Kidlington Reserves. Half-time 0-2.

Although Winslow spent most of the game in their opponents' half, their final ball in the penalty area was poor and the Kiddy keeper was rarely tested. The visitors, who went three up before surviving a late comeback, were well organised and played as a team. It's not clear why they are so low down, and they were not playing first teamers.

Winslow have talented players going forward but teamwork was lacking at times. They also had a player sent off for dissent 15 minutes from time, and another sin binned for 10 minutes, also for dissent.

Winslow are still second to champions Stotfold and guaranteed a play-off spot, but can still be overtaken and lose home advantage. However, their away record is much better, one defeat as opposed to six at home, so might prefer an away tie. 108 watched an enjoyable game.
