How the Columbus Crew were saved
Copa did a brilliant three part series on how the Columbus Crew fans, confronted with a sleazy owner intent on moving them off to Austin, banded together as a grass roots movement and ultimately managed to keep their club in the city (Austin ended up being awarded an expansion franchise instead).
MLS still has challenges with quality, but I think this is the best story to come from the fledgling history of MLS. I lived in Columbus for 2 1/2 years in the mid 2000s and saw the Crew win their first Championship in L.A. in 2008, so this story has a special delight.
Best of all, I think it shows the very real passion many fans over here have for the beautiful game. Well worth a watch if anyone has time on their hands.
