Bucks v Herts Sun/Mon/Tues

If you fancy some decent cricket to watch, try Bucks v Herts in the Minor Counties Championship this coming Sun/Mon/Tues at Tring Park Cricket Club (HP23 6HA).
It’s a lovely ground with good facilities and has a Tesco opposite if you want to buy food/drink (food is available in the clubhouse too), It’s free to get in & a programme costs £2. Play is 11-7pm each day with two innings each.
Parking can get tight at the ground so park in Station Road otherwise as there’s another entrance to the ground there. Bring your own fold-up seat if possible but there are seats dotted around the ground.
With a dire lack of County Championship cricket at the moment this is the next best thing. “Highly recommended”.

  • Quite Ironic, Bucks home game v Herts to be played in Herts !!

  • The reason is that Herts CCC seem very against playing in the west of the county. They are very Bishops Stortford / North Mymms orientated. Hence players for teams in the west of the county rarely get picked and therefore gravitate towards Bucks.

Another reason for using Tring Park is the parking & facilities & public transport links are very good. The ground at Wormsley, for example, is a beautiful setting but there’s no public transport.

2 years ago Bucks played Northumberland at Chesham. People came to watch from places like Southampton, London and even Sheerness in Kent - but they came via public transport (on the tube to Chesham).

  • Herts resume this morning on 179-8 off 79 overs, after Bucks put them into bat. Slow going for Herts with HW bowler Cameron Parsons looking especially good, 2-20 off 20 overs. Bucks captain Tom Hampton took three wickets.

Just over two hours were lost to rain yesterday, partially made up with play extended by 30 minutes to 7:30 last night, and play starting half an hour earlier at 10:30 this morning.

  • Herts have just been bowled out for 184 off 83.5, Hampton finishing with 5-55 off 18.5, four of them clean bowled.

  • Popped over to the cricket either side of lunch. Seem to have cursed Bucks. Will let Mr Peary provide details anon.

  • Bucks 207 all out off 67. 5 overs. Coming up to lunch Bucks were going well at 114-2, Alexei Kervezee (53) and Adam King (29) had put on 80 and looked comfortable, but both were out within 5 balls. Wickets tumbled after lunch, to 156-9, but a very good last wicket stand of 51 between Ross Richardson (41 no) and Tom Hampton (20) saw Bucks take an unlikely 23 run lead, helped by three dropped catches in the innings.

Glad you made it along @HCblue, not your fault for the collapse, down to some very good bowling by Herts, especially by Zaman Akhter, 6-51. Good to see some other Chairboys and Chairgirls here, more spectators today than yesterday.

  • You can follow progress on https://www.play-cricket.com/website/results/4653316, which also has videos of key moments.

  • Hace come home now but stayed long enough to undo the curse and leave Bucks in great shape. Again, will leave @Steve_Peart to provide the details. Enjoyable few hours.

Where were you sat, @Steve_Peart? I'll look out for you tomorrow if (spoilers alert) there's enough cricket left.

Close to the sightscreens, just north of them, at the town end. Will be in the same spot tomorrow. Will bring something light and dark blue, in case you come, although with Herts currently 67-8, there may not long left in this game.

  • I see they are all out. Won't make it tomorrow now, I think - wouldn't be able to get there before 1130!

  • Yes, Herts 75 all out, wickets shared amongst four bowlers. Bucks need 53 to win and have about 25 minutes left tonight.

  • Just announced that an extra 30 minutes can be added if a result is possible, so 58 minutes to get 53 runs. It is getting dark, though.

  • Looks like they won't need the extra time!

  • Bucks 54-0, won by 10 wickets at 7:29, Eliot Callis 39 no, AJ Woodland 14 no. A good win and a very enjoyable day's play, which ebbed and flowed as 22 wickets fell today.

  • Well that was a very entertaining 2 days of cricket! Not the warmest weather I’ve ever experienced but the cricket was red hot. A very good crowd today was treated to some really exciting cricket….& a Bucks win.

Make a date of the next home game: Bucks v Northumberland at Chesham Sun/Mon/Tues August 22nd/23rd/24th. Play 11.00 to 7pm.
