Not sure that I mastered the technology there.

  • It’s all conjecture apparently.

  • Looks like you've got the oranges where you meant red?

  • In Bayo, Darius and Bloomers we have about as good a set of role models as any organisation could ever wish for. If there is budget and if we are serious about player development I cannot think of 3 better people to guide the future Wycombe stars.

  • Mehmeti on Insta: "I and we as a team will be back."

We have a year's option on him don't we?
Hopefully we tie him to a more long term deal soon.

Add JJ into that and we've had some good eggs recently haven't we!

Bloomfield will surely stay on as a coach now, Bayo hopefully gets that last year with a crowd there.
I think Charles is the big doubt. But he's beaten massive odds before, so maybe he could yet play on in the lower tier? Depends on the pain level and whether it's worth putting himself through that without much game time as a reward.

  • If I had to guess at which of the current players will be here at the start of next season, I'd say:

    1. Stockdale
    2. Grimmer
    3. McCarthy
    4. Stewart
    5. Tafazolli
    6. Jacobson
    7. Obita
    8. Thompson
    9. Gape
    10. Burley
    11. Wheeler
    12. Onyedinma
    13. Horgan
    14. McCleary
    15. Ikpeazu
    16. Samuel
    17. Kashket

    Anderson
    Clark
    Forino-Joseph
    Mehemti
    Linton

So 5 free spots for senior signings

According to Transfermarkt, which can be hit and miss - but you'd assume so! Phil mentioned a while back that Gaz said they were "working on it".

  • Freeman is still under contract and isn't Pattison as well?

I'm assuming Freeman will move on, even if only on loan, but Pattison is out of contract.

What makes you put Burley ahead of the other B teamers? At least Georgiou has EFL experience with Stevenage

His international appearances are hardly an indicator of League 1/Champ quality given Rowan Liburd was also in the same team. Anything Ainsworth says in the press is worth taking with a pinch of salt and I wouldn't take a throwaway remark to the Bucks Free Press as any indication he is expected to play a 1st team role next season.

Plus I think Bayo will stay for 1 more year

  • We all knew Knight staying was unlikely, but his thank you note on twitter definitely seems to be an ending.

However, Tafa and Stewart will be a powerful combo for league one.

  • My guess would be that Charles, Freeman and Pattison and one of Kasket or Samuel will move on

Georgiou has started one EFL game. Admittedly Burley only played a few cup games for Reading, but he has had other high-ish level experience out on loan. Plus Gaz spoke pretty explicitly about wanting to turn him into a DM.

Georgiou will probably have at least three players ahead of him in the pecking order whether we stick with the 3-4-1-2 or revert to a system with wingers / wide forwards, so I don't see him getting a look-in any time soon - plus he's over 21.

The players at the bottom of the list I expect to stay, but they wouldn't count towards the 22. Burley is already over 21, so he'd be classed as senior.

Agree on the first three. But with the move to playing 2 central strikers, the others have a higher chance of playing in the lower tier.
Uche can't play 50 games, so Samuel would be a different option.

That would certainly be a healthy starting point and gives room for the accustomed arrival of a surprise signing (or 2) and a few excellent loanees.
TBH it wouldn't surprise me if either Samuel and/or Kashkett also looked to get more regular football again and maybe Horgan would want to be paying at a higher level. So perhaps even more wiggle room for incomings.
It's an exciting time to be a Wanderer.

Was interesting to hear Stocko say yesterday that he thinks the vast majority of the squad will still be here next season. I think 'the Wycombe Way' is more powerful than we perhaps realise. Can't begrudge anyone wanting to play Championship football again next season, but at the same time this club is just the perfect fit for so many of these players. It is a seriously special place and you 100% believe that whenever any of them mentions it.

  • Personally I’d like to see this thread in two or three weeks time. Let our current squad take the gratitude we have for all their efforts this season- denied a second championship season by dubious refereeing decisions in my view.

Then after a short break we can think about next season and who might stay or go.

  • If only football hung around like that! I expect we'll know who's staying and going (out of those whose contracts are about to expire, at least) in the next few days.

  • It’s all conjecture apparently.

or not. I think you'll find WWFC does hang around like that...with the Gasroom pulling what hair it has left out in frustration right up until the first game...

I really don’t think so but if you are a reincarnation (non-Buddhist) of @chairboyscentral, I’d better listen!!

Wasn’t advocating the club not working in the background. Just seems to me to not be long between the season finishing (or not) and fans wishing some members of the squad to be on their way

I am (a reincarnation, not Buddhist). It's strange for clubs to leave it much longer than a week to announce their retained list. We released ours four days after the end of the season in 2019 and five days after in 2018. Might even have been as soon as the day after the play-off final last year.

  • That said, the uncertainty over the Derby situation might mess with the usual timescale.

  • Looking at list of out of contract players, not sure there would be a huge difference in retained list in Champ or Lg1.
Maybe a second senior GK in Champ if Rocky wanted to stay but otherwise no one springs to mind.

  • I think it helps players to know they are released early, so they can actively look for other clubs.
