Berko edge Ducks in local derby

Football fans starved of live matches should have been at Broadwater this evening. In a thrilling local derby in the Southern League Berkhamsted came from behind to beat local rivals Aylesbury United 3-2 with two goals in the last ten minutes.

Aylesbury got off to a bad start when Berkhamsted’s Lewis Toomey blocked a clearance by the keeper & the ball rolled into the net. The Ducks fought back & deservedly equalised from a breakaway by Ty Deacon.

The second-half saw the home team with more possession but midway through the half Aylesbury took the lead with a blistering shot by Ty Deacon. Lewis Toomey (who had earlier missed 2 sitters) then pounced twice in the last 10 minutes to turn the tables & give Berkhamsted all 3 points.

A crowd of 242 saw the game with about half from Aylesbury. One point of note, I got in for £4 (instead of £9) on production of a Wycombe Wanderers season-ticket. Great entertainment for £4 - you just can’t beat it!

  • Played against the lad that scored for Aylesbury the other week Sunday league and got absolutely rag dolled, you do start to realise the difference in levels even low tier football.

Was thinking about going to Berkhampsted Saturday as the closest ground I've not seen a game at, so will probably give it a go and thanks for the report
