If we get to go to Villa Park again, I thoroughly recommend The Bartons Arms in Aston High Street. I go to Aston once a year for work and always visit the place. It now has a Thai dining section but the separate drinking room has a good selection of Oakham Ales.
The 1901 tiled decor, with stained glass windows, is just fabulous and remarkably intact. Imagine having a pint with Laurel and Hardy, when they used to stay there when playing at the Hippodrome opposite!
