Impossible to answer that - it's a squad game. Surely the beauty of signing McCarthy is that not only does he cover Grimmer, but he can also step in for Charles or Stewart at CB too. Particularly important in the case of Charles who we can assume will miss all the midweek games we have coming up.

Arguably also better cover than Mascoll at left-back? I only say that as Mascoll is so inexperienced, wouldn't normally be keen on inverted full-backs.

I reckon for certain games it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility to have McCarthy and Grimmer both in the same lineup on the right.
I suppose it'd be slightly odd to have in training with us if we hadn't sealed the deal.
But then it'd be unlike us not to announce it. I know we're very cautious with other stuff, but we generally announce signings?
