Can you imagine the mess if Macclesfield are docked points for this and are relegated by a point, while Bolton stay up in L1 by a point? Or even if neither club is docked, and both stay up by a point?
The mishandling of these clubs could lead to severe wider repercussions for so many others.
I think the EFL have to start automatically giving the points to the opposition in these instances.
It is totally unfair on the likes of Crewe who now have to play the game later in the season when they may have a backlog of fixtures. Crewe are currently in a promotion place so the delay could be crucial.

Might even end up with no teams relegated from League Two this season.

Problem is, that then opens the EFL to legal claims from other clubs. They've buried their heads in the sand over unfit owners for so long now and mishandled recent cases so badly they've backed themselves into a no-win situation.

That then gives a disadvantage to any rivals of Crewe!
It's a real mess for sure. But Macclesfield should definitely get a points deduction for it. Otherwise any club can find a reason to postpone.
Do the EFL have the power to deduct points for missed fixtures? It was an independent panel last time, whose decision not to dock Bolton set an awful precedent.

That only solves the problem if the club postponing is docked plenty of points too. Giving points to the other club isn't going to help keep a level playing field either.
The Bolton ruling has led to this as Macclesfield took a different approach in the FA Cup under different rules.
A club will postpone a game for mental wellbeing later this season when promotions and relegations are on the line.
Comments
Ainsworth on his way
Hopefully Kingstonian get awarded the match if Macclesfield can't put out a team.
What a mess
Are we going to see another Bury? I fear yes.
Not getting any better

Anyone believing the "banking difficulties" excuse......
Not surprising they are in "difficulties" if they owe Campbell £182,000 for 9 months work.
And of course, they can't be docked points if they refuse to play, a la Bolton? Talk about a can of worms...
Game is off

Haven't Southend just been back to the courts? Sol, frying pan and fire comes to mind!

That would be insane.

That independent panel was a weird one, wasn't it - appointed by the EFL who are now appealing against the decision of the panel they set up.

5 lives Ian Dennis reporting that they may have lost their safety certificate. May be playing behind closed doors on Saturday.
Also: docked points partly because they failed to fulfil a fixture - yet Bolton got off scot-free after failing to fulfil two games?
Bolton are (were) a big club so different rules apply!
Christ! What a mess!
If correct, surely this has to be knocked on the head. This is making making the EFL an absolute embarrassment.
Confirmed off now. Apparently the Plymouth team are already up there. What a shame... https://www.efl.com/news/2019/december/efl-statement-macclesfield-town2
Macclesfield claiming the game is on
And will Plymouth get any compensation, of course not.
