Fascinating goalkeeping fact of the day

Discussion on another thread raised a comparison between Scott Brown and Brian Parkin in terms of who was "better" or "worse", so I thought I would take a look at the data.

Focussing on the number of clean sheets kept by each goalkeeper, it would appear that neither one is/was better than the other. The statistics show their clean sheet rates to be identical:

Scott Brown - Season 2017/18 to date
Matches with clean sheets = 14
Total matches played = 49
Clean sheet rate = 14/49 = 2/7 = 28.571429%

Brian Parkin - Season 1996/97
Matches with clean sheets = 8
Total matches played = 28
Clean sheet rate = 8/28 = 2/7 = 28.571429%

  • Yeah what that proves is that on a minute statistical sample you can prove or disprove just about anything.
I’m currently working out the times Wycombe won when I was wearing a hat compared to not. That way I can conclusively prove that wearing a hat is the reason for promotion or not in any given season

If we get up with all the problems we've had in defence this season it will be a great achievement for the character of the team and the players Gareth has assembled. They may not individually be as 'good' as some of the players we've had in the past but it's been a great season. I always wear a hat.

  • Tin one I hope.

  • Tin one I hope.

  • It's a racoon skin hat...I sit on a tin one

  • InconTINent?

  • It’s a fun little quirk that the clean sheet percentage is identical, even if it doesn’t say anything about the quality of the two keepers.

  • Brian Parkin's poor kicking doesn't show in the stats sadly.

  • Parkin is probably our player I dislike the most, not just for his on pitch displays but for celebrating way too much when Rovers beat us at Adams Park, after he had rejoined them and he was a sub. I also seem to remember him hitting a ball into a child behind the goal in a warm up and not being very apologetic.

  • he was an arrogant cock !

  • Scott McGleish for me Steve

  • Good point. Disrespecting the short is unforgivable

  • And the shirt even worse

  • McGleish did behave badly that day, and is clearly a bit of a big head, but I have to admire him for scoring 26 goals for us in a season, and for making over 1000 career appearances and still be playing at a decent level aged 44.

  • His comments when Paul Lambert left were also awful

I'm not questioning his ability as a player though. He was outstanding

  • Parkin stands out as the worst keeper we’ve ever had. Criminally bad. Being the replacement for Paul Hyde makes the crime even more staggering.

At least Scott Brown makes a few decent saves and can kick properly.

  • Worse than Sieb Dijkstra?

  • Cheeseman was worse than Porn Star Dijkstra
