@Grawlix I'd completely forgotten about that penalty until I saw the video again. If the rest of the evening wasn't so momentous that would have stuck in the memory for a lot longer.

You're right that, devoid of any context, that was a scrappy game between a team that on paper should have comfortably won over the other on a truly terrible pitch (certainly by today's standards) but contrived to lose. What really makes it incredible were the amount of setbacks during that game where it looked like we were doomed and certain to go out, yet we just wouldn't lie down and die. Especially as a once-in-a-lifetime chance of getting to the FA Cup quarter final was at stake. I can't have been the only person who let out a loud cheer half of the neighbourhood heard when Macca's goal went in after watching all of the rest of the game, surely?!

How blessed we’ve been to witness some of these heroics over the years
