The whole sport should be banned. Not for animal cruelty, I'd happily turn all horses into an EU glue mountain, but for the fact that it only exists to move money from the pockets of poor people to those of already rich people.
Anyone who can beat an animal out of their own petty frustration needs close observation. Its a worrying pattern of behaviour and indicative of a personality type that can self justify violence against the defenceless.
Even more insensitive is that it was displayed at Gloucester City's ground (Rovers weren't even playing there). When I was at uni I played in a 5-a-side with someone from Gloucester who said that many of the local wrong'uns claimed some sort of connection to him to boost their own notoriety. In this light it's maybe not that surprising that one of the biggest wrong'un magnets in the area attracts this sort of clientele.
I always found Gloucester to be a strange place and I suspect Mr and mrs west were not necessarily even the strangest most perverted nursery people there.

Two week ban? For an industry that purports to put animal welfare first, that's pathetic. Hope the next horse he goes near kicks him in the head.
Kicking in the bollocks would be more appropriate.

you're all heart, doc
I don't think her Royal Highness would agree with you Doctor.
Someone please enlighten me about the Rovers connection.
I believe there were some police horse-punching incidents in the ugly scenes immediately following the conclusion of the inaugural 'Colin Daniel Day'.

Thanks, Jonny.
Slightly tenuous!
I thought they were commonly known as the “horse punchers” these days.
Not commonly enough for this blinkered donkey, evidently!

Bristol Rovers' commitment to gender equality and fighting gender stereotyping in action at their recent game against the PNLs.
I hope she was saddled with a substantial fine
Was this the mane news?
They need to rein in their unbridled enthusiasm for punching horses, and neigh mistake.
good pub that
disgraceful behaviour though - what's wrong with them?
Quite a lot it would seem.

@ReadingMarginalista
This is where football has gone mad for me.
If that flag had a racist/sexist/homophobic message/symbol on it, it would be asked to be taken down.
However, because it is deemed simply in 'bad taste' it's allowed to stay up.
The law seems to be the only guide for common sense.
An image of Fred West on a football flag, while not offensive to me, could be as distressing to some individuals as anything you could imagine.
Why you would want it on a flag anyway is beyond me..as you say..."Quite a lot wrong with them".

So insensitive. Normally people try to associate themselves with gangsters or musicians...not murderers and rapists....weird
I don’t think football has gone mad at all, they have just made a mistake in this particular instance by allowing the flag to stay up.
Gloucester is about as weird a place as you could imagine
Nothing would surprise me
Jesus! this man was a vile sadist murderer and some cockwomble puts him on a flag words fail me
I always found Gloucester to be a strange place and I suspect Mr and mrs west were not necessarily even the strangest most perverted nursery people there.
Nursery? Predictive text? Really? I suspect mr and mrs west were not necessarily the strangest most perverted MURDERY people there.
The best pasty I ever had was in Gloucester.
But that doesn't make up for any of the above of course.
