Does this sound familiar?
Went to see Hemel Hempstead Town v Zmaidenhead United today in the Conference South - primarily to keep tabs on young striker Oliver Hawkins, who I think has got tremendous potential to be a Football League striker. Firstly, the pitch was about as threadbare as Adams Park, but without the accentuated bounce of the Desso pitch. It made for a poor spectacle as both sides struggled to string passes together on the bobbly surface.
Just on half-time Hemel took the lead as Oliver Hawkins' towering header from a right-wing cross found the corner of the net. The second-half saw a change as Maidenhead came more and more into the game. As Hemel ran out of steam Maidenhead equalised with five minutes to go to dent Hemel's play-off hopes.
There were a few boos at the end and a chant of "You don't know what you're doing". Bad pitch, disappointing result, a few boos and a chant criticising the management (or possibly the ref). Familiar?
