Yes he played of course played for Martin Oneills international XI against Wycombe .O Neil's team won 8 -4 or 9-4 I think we all lost count. George was allowed to score a goal thanks to some delbrate dodgy defending ! The game also marked the return of the quartered shirts after an absence of around 27 years.
Good piece by Dave Gardner on fans' Facebook page. You'll particularly like his description of the Best goal. Not sure about the length of time without quarters. 27 years seems excessive.
That sort of ties in with my memories, I could only remember the light blue tops, but apparently my first year or so we would have worn the quarters.
On a side note, can anyone remember - or know - what sort of prices the shirts from that game went for? They were auctioned off after I can remember putting a bid in for one of them but never heard how way off I would have been
