All not well at the PNL

Mysterious failed take overs, budget cuts, backroom and off the field jobs vacated and now it looks as if Appleton is off to be Leicesters number two.
Oxfords model seems to be an absolute basket case, they make huge losses year after year, do not own their ground or training facilities, and pay dubious owner Kassam vast amount of rent to lease the State de 3 sides, whilst having almost no other streams of revenue on matchdays.
Can see the PNL having to lower their ambitions of reaching the Checkertrade it's a knockout, Micky Mouse final this year.

Comments

  • They are one of those clubs that need someone to come in and throw money into the furnace to survive

  • Oxford Utd are a perfect storm waiting to happen. Delusions of grandeur, marginally above average L2 attendances, no stadium, high wages, expensive area, complex and messy ownership nobody wants to pay or devote time to untangling.

  • Living in the area unfortunately I've worked with a few of their supporters they are so arrogant so I for one will be glad to see them suffer. They didn't like it when I tell them we call them Pnl

  • In fairness, they did win the cup back in the 1980s.
    That's big time.

  • @OX66 keep up the good work

  • I'm Oxford born and bred, and have very few connections to Wycombe outside of football (although I love the town more every year).

I'm a product of the FA cup fun, I was 10 when I saw Rhino score and haven't looked back since.

I love Oxford as a city and consider myself an oxfordian in most instances, but I have no regrets that I found myself in the quarters.

Most lower league fans I'm friends with are Oxford and I agree with OX66. They think they are a sleeping giant, just biding their time for a top 6 Premier league finish.

The name PNL definitely irks them, and until last season the fact Wycombe had fared better for well over a decade was a sore spot.

  • @ChasHarps : I'm going to go all arrogant and suggest that Stade de Trois Cotês has a better ring to it.

  • Yes never miss a chance to wind them up, as bill stickers mentions oxford is such a great place socially so much going for it. I normally point out that they were in the first division as it was when they won the milk cup however we are relatively new in the league , we have been to semi finals in both the major cups and we were not funded by stolen pension funds ....they seem to froth at the mouth at this point.

  • Stolen pension funds is a glorious button push. Often results in eye bulging apoplexy

  • Slightly surprised that no-one has picked me up on my errant circumflex and absent acute accent in Stade des Trois Côtés.

  • Always loved the the PNL moniker, however, the SPF is growing on me. I have to drive back to the other side of Oxford for our home games, driving down through the Stovkenchurch cut loosing 3CR before they interview Gaz (last on as ever), to be left with an hour of wall to wall nonsense on BBC Radio Oxford , nightmare.....

  • Noted it, @micra, but don't know how to produce them on keyboard so let it slide. Please be more careful next time. There are impressionable minds here: don't want them getting the wrong idea.

  • Playing devil's advocate here, but could it be argued that our League Cup success was at least in part funded by money made from the desperation and misery of those who turned to Loans.co.uk to try to make it through the month?

  • Happy to be proved wrong and rather hoping I will be!

  • Possibly, but that's a whole different ballgame to stealing your employees' pensions which they have built up during their entire working lives, and spending it on yachts and helicopters and Oxford United.

  • I quite agree Chris and at the end of the day, as awful as payday loans companies are, they are legal I suppose.

  • Same side of Oxford as perfidious have the same issue with 3CR however I wouldn't dare turn on BBC oxford to listen to their deluded views.

  • @HCblue: letting it slide is the key, strangely. If you put your finger on the appropriate letter and hold it there, you will see a whole range of choices. Simply slide your finger up towards the the one you want. I chanced upon this facility fairly recently.
I was told how to italicise by @Chris. You put an asterisk at the start and finish of the word you want to be in italics.
All is not well at the PNL/SFC.

  • Correction: SPFFC.

  • @OX66 - We often listen to Radio Oxford driving home after games; if the PNL have lost it's the best comedy show on the radio.

  • @micra. Thanks for trying to help me. Was a bit confused by your direction until I thought you're probably writing from an iPad or phone or other touchscreen device. Am I right? If so, any idea how to do the same thing on a normal laptop?

  • Maxwells plan was to steal some of the pension fund but not go overboard he failed on both.

  • Bbc oxford and bbc Berkshire are very similar I can remember when Reading wingers were in thr same division another team who belive they should be top of the premiership although to be fair to them they have done ok. Very similar type of supporter arrogant and deluded.

  • @Morris_Ital seems to need access to more than italics. But I love the wit.

@HCblue: the iPhone is excellent; I could never do accents (or much else) on the laptop.

  • @micra These days its an optometrist I need access to

  • Appleton's move to Leicester is done all bar formalities according to the Oxford Mail. Bad time to having to find a new manager. Terrible shame if it affects their start of the season.

  • You won't be laughing when they appoint Gareth Ainsworth.

  • I think theyve already line up Timmy Mallet, if they can agree compensation with Maidenhead United over their shared supporter.
