Play Offs...

edited May 2017 in Football

So, with our season over, the question remains as to who we would prefer to go up through the play offs: Luton, Exeter, Carlisle or Blackpool?

Personally, as much as we all dislike them (and diving Danny in particular) I reckon that best case scenario is Luton go up. That way all four teams heading up are 'big budget' sides, giving us more of a good run at promotion next year. Thoughts?

    • I hope Luton go up. I'd rather never have to go back to Kenilworth Rd

    • Exeter or Luton purely for selfish geographic reasons.

    • I detest Luton and diving Danny so don't want them to have success. Any of the others would be ok but probably go with Carlisle in view of the long journey.

    • Carlisle for me, it's basically another universe going up there

Agreed hate them even more than Oxford, for that reason I don't want them anywhere near Adams Park next season, promotion for The Hatters please.

    • I quite enjoyed the trip to Carlisle this season even though they beat us. The train is reasonable value if you have a Friends and Family or other discount card. There are some interesting watering holes en route to the ground and it is an old school venue, which I prefer to the more modern stadiums so prevalent these days.

    • Exeter as they are fan owned like us.

    • Heart says Exeter, head says Luton for that exact reason @Brownie

    • Carlisle, simply for the insane distance. Obsessives only terrain.

Luton are an odious club in a horrible stadium, but at least it's a mere 45mins away!

    • Intensly dislike Luton, but would rather they won the playoffs this season than the league the season after. Plus agree that Luton going up makes L2 look very open next season.

Hope Exeter stay down purely because it's my only 'home' game!

    • @Malone Ridiculous comment. Carlisle is a cracker, one of the best trips of the season. I would rather Luton disappear full stop.

    • I don't think it's "ridiculous" for anyone living down here.
To a northerner like you it may not be a "ridiculous" journey, but personally, 5-6hours one way? I think i have better stuff to do

    • Like Jonny, anyone but Exeter.

      a) because if they go only one team remains within 140 miles and no human being should be reduced to actively looking forward to visiting the town of Yeovil.
      b) because of their supporters exaggerated whining when we have the temerity to score more goals in a game than they do
      c) because of the disgraceful way their supporters treated their manager earlier this season - they don't deserve Wembley IMHO.

    • I'd like to see Carlisle go up. They played so well for the first half of the season and it's great they have salvaged something.

Luton is a close away day, and they bring a decent number through the gate at AP, which is good for the club's finances.

Oyston doesn't deserve a promotion, and Exeter are west country whingers like their local brethren Plymouth.

    • Get rid of Luton then all the big hitters would have gone up.

    • Not really that fussed to be honest but I don't think I'd like to see Luton fans celebrating at Wembley so I'm going to go for Blackpool as their fans deserve something to cheer about.

@Malone I'm an exile not a northerner. I was referring to the fixture as a long distance one. They are always the best away days. So I have a completely different view on it to you.

    • @M3G , a different opinion doesn't make my view "ridiculous" in any way though.
      Northerner/exile, you got the gist

    • No sorry i dont get the "gist" why is it Obsessives only terrain? It might not be ridiculous but you make it sound like it not normal to support your team over 50 miles away! I was not born in the North. I'm from West End Street, High Wycombe. So I am not a northerner.

    • But you were born in Sarf London, and really your team should have been 'The Trams' Mr M3G !!

    • @ChasHarps Lol only there for 3 months. Complicated as my real dad was Major of Wycombe and a JP and Wycombe Wanderers committee man! Women who strayed in those days were left to care for themselves. Thank God we live in better period of time otherwise I would have grown up supporting Melbourne city!

    • @MG3

However if you were from Hazlemere you'd definitely be a northern bastard.

    • @M3G , you only have to look at the travelling numbers to see it's the real hardcore material who go to Carlisle away! Pure hats off material.
And what I am saying, is that it's easier for you to travel to Carlisle as you're starting off from so much closer!

    • The comment obsessives only is what the original issue was, almost like anyone who goes has some sort of mental issue

    • To be honest, I didn't read the word 'obsessives' in a critical way. I'm a very sane 'obsessive' myself, and proud of it. However, just think back to 1993 and how many 'obsessives' made the journey that particular season (twice!)

Yeah don't over read here! We're all obsessive to some level.
I can't pretend i'm overly entertained, yet go to every home game, and a few aways here and there.
But Carlisle/every away is certainly a special level of "dedication"

I did Exeter away on a midweek a few years ago, just to taste what that sort of mad trip is like.
I wouldn't rush to repeat it to be honest!

    • Exeter on a Tuesday. ...one of those what did I do that for moments

    • We live just across the border in Beds and the good Lady Her Indoors teaches in a school just outside Luton. We know far too many Hatters to be able to endure their crowing should they go up. Added to that when I was a young man my mate's then girlfriend who was quite odious also claimed alliegence to the dreadful side during their so called glory years.

So for those quite unreasonable reasons I hope their hearts are broken in a penalty shootout with Carlisle.
