Yob Culture

yet again I will raise this topic, as I did at the end of last season. Yesterday there were scenes which saddened me before the match, a group of around 40 idiots being escorts by riot vans and horses to the ground, shouting loudly and trying to fight Colchester fans in taxis from town. I raised this at the end of last season, as a man approaching retirement, it intimidated myself and my father, so god knows what this group thought they were doing.

Scenes like this are awful for our club, I hope nobody was injured by these morons.

  • Passed the pub at the time the mob was starting to lumber along, and put a shift on to avoid being seen as part of them.

A few middle aged guys who should know better, but still insist on hanging about with big gangs of kids 20-25 years younger, perhaps thinking it makes them some sort of figurehead.

generally very unseemly, bravely picking on a couple of taxis with two or three col u fans in, and even chucking drinks bottles, while trying to look menacing.

Clearly they didn't dare with any of this on the way out, as they don't like actual risk of aggro.

  • Pity the police don't do the job they are paid to, i.e. keep law and order.

  • It all sounds very sad. Hopefully the club will take the same line on this as they do on pyrotechnics.

  • after speaking with an old lady who goes in the terrace this morning in town, apparently this 'group' started trying to fight an OAP who has a differing view to them near the end of the match, resulting in a mass altercation, which really is shocking

  • How long until the first "we create the atmosphere so we can do whatever we want" post appears?

Sounds like perhaps Harriman has a point!

  • We create the atmosphere so we can do whatever we want

  • Love your delicious sense of irony @banterking .

  • This is one of the reasons I rarely go to away games any more (which I love doing). At home I can sit far away from them but some of the chants and behaviour away from home are plain embarrassing - constant abuse of players and desperately trying to be some kind of firm.

Their behaviour seems to be escalating now, many of the FB group posts are hijacked by their "fishing", abusiveness and general negativity, and I do pity any members of the public who end up in the same carriage as them when they travel to away games!
Being near them on the terrace is cringeworthy too, using t c word in songs to players who have left but barely gave anything to really moan about.

As I walked in yesterday, a quite intimidating looking fella was screaming into one of the policemen's faces, something along the lines of "that's effing b@ll@cks, I effing helped you out last time".
    The mind boggles.

  • @wycombelad . I don't know about that version in fairness. I was watching it from a distance, and it looked like the individual in question was very much the aggressor, having to be led away.
However, to get that steamed up, must have been something else going on beforehand

  • First post on here so be kind. would like to clear a few things up, whoever said we started on an older fan because he had a different opinion is a load of rubbish.
In fact it was him who turned around to then shout who wants it first? come down here?
all because we had the different opinion. Not surprised everyone just blames us though. we are not yobs and we was not looking for fights when walking to the ground.

  • From what I saw on Saturday there did seem to be a different older and well built gentleman in the middle of the two or three altercations I saw.
What I also saw was that the younger fan base were by no means blameless too. Just treat people with a bit of respect and trouble tends to avoid you.

  • Just use your energy to positively support the team. No need to abuse anyone, players , coaching staff , police, stewards or fellow supporters . Might have better results too.

  • Spot on @Stewie63. Despite the turgid poo I/we have watched in 2016, I still refuse to berate/abuse the players or coaching staff at the match. I will always encourage and try to lift the players. Abuse, moaning and swearing at the team can only have a negative effect, never a positive.
I will confess to having a bloody good moan on here though!!!!
