Slough Town

Marvelous to see our old rivals Slough Town on the verge of returning to their own stadium, in Slough, in time for the new season.

There’s not many pictures to see at the minute as it looks like their scrambling to get it ready on time but from those that are available it looks a smart new £8m council funded community sports facility with a state of the art 3G pitch.

After years of borrowing other people’s grounds and seeing their fanbase decline after being turfed out of Wexham Park, this should give the Rebels the platform to start working their way back up the pyramid from the Southern League Premier.

I’ll certainly never forget that match at Adams Park in 1993 with officially more than 7,000 in the ground (but some estimates suggest even more) for a crucial top of the table Conference clash on a Tuesday night. It’s fair to say the fortunes of the two clubs have diverged somewhat since then but who knows what the future holds.

Wouldn’t it be great to go there in this season’s FA Cup or even as a pre-season friendly next year?

Anyway, that’s enough being nice to Slough for one lifetime. Der, der der der der du du der, we all fu………….

  • Extraordinary after years without a home they still play as high as the Southern League Premier. A real testament to their fanbase.

In less good local football news, Wolverton Town have decided to change their name to Unite MK FC.
