It's always interesting getting different opinions on players.
I wonder if those enthralled by Max yesterday are saying so as they've become so anti the football we're playing these days. So, it's like looking for a rose amongst thorns.
I thought Max did well to stay on as long as he did. Wide left in a midfield 4? He doesn't really have a position so we have to shoehorn him. And he never gets a run, so never gets into any form.
Nice on the ball, but we rarely have the ball in good positions to best use him.
I really don't know. His best bet is being super cheap, a local boy, willing to accept his role etc. Still very young, so possibly too early to give up.
Despite people saying they can see a high turn over, I thought I'd read Gaz saying something along the lines of the opposite.
I wouldn't be surprised if he kept the majority of the squad on. Certainly Wood, Bloomfield, Bean, and Hayes as a player coach. Maybe aiming to get 1 or 2 big players in, from releasing the Gozie/Sellers types and having the loanee money to play with again.
Thompson is my biggest worry. Looks an absolute carthorse, and I fear we made a monumental error making it a 2 year deal.
Wide left in a midfield 4 has been Max's most successful position - remember his sparkling display when he came on as a sub against Leicester in the League Cup? But, until his stuttering displays there and elsewhere this season, Sammy Wood has nailed that position down.
Wood and Bloomfield have been poor this season and i see no reason to think they'll improve next season, sentiment only lasts for so long and i wouldn't be bothered if they moved on in the summer.
Bloomfield I'd like us to keep on, I think he's a decent player and has had a decent season. And the value of having someone with his experience and love of the club should not be underestimated. Wood has been below his best this season, but has been one of our better players for a few years previously. Probably he'll need a good chat with GA post season as to whether he feels he can recapture his best form for us, or whether he feels he needs a change of scenery. We don't want to make the same mistake as Cheltenham did with Jombati in releasing a good, proven player after one below par season.
How many of our players would go in and risk injury to score like Bloomfield did? He's super loyal, and although he's a bit average on the pitch these days, it is league 2 where there are loads of average players!
But @robin poses an interesting one, about not being bothered about Wood n Bloomfield going.
I'd probably only put 5 players on the "gutted to see them go" list, in Pierre, Jacobsen, Jombati, Harriman and O Nien. And Jombati has barely featured since McCarthy came in, so clearly we could cope without.
Hayes I'm afraid has tailed off massively, mostly down to fitness, but it's doubtless, and I was one of the last to think such a thing.
I think Max probably represents good value for money and I would like to see him kept on for next season.
I agree with many posters here that Paul Hayes has not seemed as good this season as before. Statistically, though, he has been our most influential player this season so far. If you compare our win rate with Hayes in the team to our win rate when he has not been in the team, the positive impact of his presence is greater than the same comparison for any other regular Wycombe player (although I have a feeling PCH would have had an even bigger impact, had he not become injured).
I think the Hayes influence on matches is massively under-rated by people on here at times. True, he's not had as good a season as he did last year but who has? I think he has a big impact on the team and he doesn't need to be scoring twenty goals a season for that to show in our results.
I thought Max and Hayes linked up very well on Saturday as did McCarthy and Harriman on the right...for me. I think after the goal either Hayes or Thompson should have come off for sellars, to both add a bit of pace against the team chasing the game and to save their aged legs for tomorrow.

Never mind replacement @Snakes. I chose my word carefully - alternative.
And it was that left midfield I had in mind. Sammy has been used in several other positions this season.

My biggest worry is the changes to the loan system next year.

The fact that he tried to retrain Max as a striker last summer is testament to two things:
1) that he likes Max as a footballer, and possibly wanted him to take the role McClure left behind.
2) the fact he's been dropped from that and is now only ever used through injuries, maybe suggests he's going
We need some players who are going to basically hang around the bench though, with occasional appearances.
Max looks spot on for that role.

McGinn was back to how he was before the last 3 or 4 games, a bit invisible and plodding

Couldn't agree more @Rolo.

I thought Max grew into the game, made the goal and has been unlucky not to feature more this season. Keep.
