FA Cup replay + top Non-League games this coming Tuesday

For those wanting some fresh air on Tuesday evening there are a few good matches in prospect.

Firstly, there is the FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round replay between Aylesbury FC & Chesham United at Haywood Way, Aylesbury (HP19 9WZ), just off the Bicester Road. A good local derby in prospect after a 0-0 draw at the Meadow on Saturday.

Secondly, it's not too far to get to Boreham Wood who are making a reasonable fist of their first season in the Vanarama National League. On Tuesday evening they entertain Bromley, another promoted team last season. Can Junior Morias and Matty Whichelow keep them up this season following the departure of Lee Angol to Peterborough United?

Finally in the Vanarama League South Hemel Hempstead entertain Hayes and Yeading in what should be the pick of the evening's games. Having lost the outstanding Jordan Parkes to Ebbsfleet, Hemel have signed Matt Spring to bolster their midfield. Should be a good game.

Other games in the Vanarama League South that appeal include Maidenhead United v Maidstone United and Oxford City v Dartford.

  • I like these local league updates. Keep them u[!

  • Gone to watch Chorley v Stockport County, Lewis Montrose is playing for SC.

  • Half-time: Hemel 1 Hayes & Yeading 0. Headed goal by Terrell Forbes from a corner just before half-time.

Matt Spring spraying the ball around in central midfield for Hemel but final pass often wayward. Elliott Benyon anonymous up front for Hayes & Yeading. Other ex-FL players include Ben Herd (ex-Shrewsbury) & Jack Smith (ex-Swindon, Millwall & Wimbledon) - both playing for Hemel.

  • Full-time: Hemel 4 Hayes Yeading 0
    Attendance: 395

A thoroughly deserved home win against a very disappointing Hayes & Yeading. The match was memorable for some outstanding goals in the second-half.

Leading 1-0 at half-time through a Terrell Forbes header, Hemel doubled their lead with a brilliant free-kick by Jack Smith from 23 yards over the wall into the top corner. With nobody to pass to Matt Spring scored a spectacular third as he rifled the ball home from 30 yards. Finally a great team goal by ex-Northampton midfielder Matty Harriott who finished off a move that must have included 30 passes. Quite brilliant!

Hayes and Yeading boasted a front pairing of ex-Dagenham striker Josh Scott and Elliott Benyon. I don't know if it's a reflection of the current state of the Football League but both were absolutely woeful. Hemel are probably a couple of players short of automatic promotion but might well make the play-offs.

  • Went to watch Oxford City v Dartford last night, our old Isthmian League rivals coming from behind to win 2-1 and go second in the Conference South. Despite losing star striker Adi Yussuf to Mansfield in the summer, Justin Merritt seems to have built a pretty good team around a handful of Spanish players. Not sure if their ground would come up to Conference National standard but would be fun to see City only one division away from their supposedly more illustrious neighbours next season.

  • Sounded a close contest at Aylesbury (Chesham winning 2-1) and also at Boreham Wood with Bromley coming out on top 3-2. Highlight of the evening was Woking defeating Forest Green to end the visitors 9-match record-breaking winning start to the season. If you watched a game I hope you found it preferable to the TV!!!

  • delighted to hear Matt Spring is still doing his thing
