Re: Match Day Thread: Cambridge
Today we were without a permanent manager head-coach, both of our right-backs, our first-choice left-back, our first-choice centre-back, our midfield playmaker (who is no longer ours) and our first-choice striker and leading goalscorer.
We also played the final third of the game with ten men having lost another centre-back and needed our goalkeeper to save a penalty.
In those circumstances it feels like a point gained.
Monday will be pivotal to our chances of completing a successful season. Once that's done, we'll have a better idea of where we stand.
Re: Match Day Thread: Cambridge
There’s a lot of football between now and May. We need to get ahold of ourselves a little bit.
Re: Match Day Thread: Cambridge
Just back. Knee jerk observations
Appalling referee. Not just the big decision all of it.
We need fullbacks. Skura was ok, Leahy’s tactic of letting their fullback cross time after time in the hope he tired himself out was questionable.
The Danish lads are not up to speed.
Fred is one of the most frustrating players of recent times. He can tear teams apart single handed.
Points dropped. For whatever reason points dropped.
Re: Match Day Thread: Cambridge
Just seen it, he clearly threw his arm out, probably happens most games and not spotted. But, he made a mistake and got spotted.
Re: Match Day Thread: Cambridge
Agree with all this. Big few days ahead, I really hope we see a full back, and another striker come in. A lot of us have droned on about getting Morley or a Morley clone in, today was further evidence this needs to happen, it’s the most important piece of business we will do this season (along with keeping Kone).
With a break from the league, 2 more weeks to get new signings up to speed, more signings to come in, Key players returning from injury, a new manager in the door and very winnable games coming in Feb there’s a lot to be positive about. COYB!
Re: Match Day Thread: Cambridge
A frustrating afternoon and in the end, that's probably a good point. We really should've been 2 or 3-0 up by the time of the red card - particular missed chances from Humphreys in the first half and Skura in the second - but the red certainly changed the game. Brilliant penalty save from Franco, but the goal was always coming. Annoying last minute winner for Wrexham (again) but the gap extends further over Huddersfield and is still 4 over Wrexham, with a superior GD and them needing to come to AP. It's very much in our hands.
A week off from the league is probably good timing. Get the likes of Kone, Low, Harvie and Grimmer fit, before having an aggressive run at the next 3 games. 9 points on the table there if we turn up.
A word on Sam Grace - 8 points from his 4 games is a superb return in the circumstances. It may seem frustrating for the draws to be against Northampton and Cambridge, but I think we'd all have taken 8 points from those 4 games had the results been the other way with draws Vs Mansfield and Barnsley.
All eyes on Dan Rice over the next few days which could be season defining. One or two more ins, keeping hold of Kone (and Low) and a new Head Coach announcement all hopefully to come before the Preston game.
Re: Match Day Thread: Cambridge
First time I've told anyone to shut up actually ! Probably the first time ive ever raised my voice on here as it happens. Just sick of it, Was hoping we'd all agreed to disagree and move on, well a lot of us had anyway ! Then someone pipes up again to stir it up. Personally I'm in neither camp as I can see things good and bad from both sides, unlike others ! People are threatening to leave here as its become so bad. @glasshalffull put it perfectly this morning, I'm guessing a lot must have skipped past it. Shame.
Re: Man of the Match - Cambridge (A)
He also pulled off a fantastic one handed save but I can’t remember if it was before or after the penalty save. Probably before.
I’m so pleased to see all the plaudits for Declan Skura. I don’t agree that “…it’s clear that he’s a square peg in a round hole” and if I was still sitting in front of you and your dad (@Slaphead) I’d have withheld the sweets. Does Roy still sit the other side of your dad? Apparently one of my toffees removed a crown or something and cost him £200. He wasn’t best pleased.
I voted for Ravizolli. Saved what could well prove to have been a very valuable point.
