Perhaps his judgement was called into question on the basis that the former Wycombe players (assuming that they got significant minutes) weren’t exactly delivering the goods.
Blackman, Pierre (captain), Gape and Wheeler all have played 90 mins in Shrewsburys last match. Seems Gaz thought they were better than many of the bunch he inherited.
Will be interesting to see if any of them turn up at the Gills next season. Must be unnerving to have followed Gaz and Dobbo (B, G & W) only to find they have walked.
The test of their performance will be if Appleton picks all/any of them?
This does feel like the "no excuses" job for Gaz. QPR and Shrewsbury could definitely be seen as no-hope moves, but going to a club with money with a run-in to the summer is a perfect set up.
"My personal highlight of Michael Appleton’s introductory interview was the part where he said that he was not one for making promises; rarely have my ears heard sweeter music."
As ever, anything you read on the internet can be taken with a pinch of salt, but “if true” then this would make a lot of sense in terms of hastening GA/RD’s departure into the arms of a richer suitor.
Gaz and Dobbo worked miracles for a long time on a small budget with us. I could understand if they felt doing that all over again seemed like going backwards.
The buyer deal was probably (unspoken) non relegation dependent- they don’t like the jeopardy in sport after all. Gaz staying probably deal dependent..
So catch22 and, to mix metaphors, Shrews now in the eye of a storm to snatch a scrappy 0-1 win away tomorrow night.

That was quick. Like they had someone else lined up all along.
Can't imagine having someone sacked as manager more than once telling the chairman who to buy ahead of you helps anyone
Gaz and Hess I’d say are cut from the same cloth, and I predict they will make a very good partnership from that respect.
