  • Such a shame we won't be able to celebrate promotion on the Gasroom. Thanks Doctor for all your hard work trying to keep us tossers in order.

  • 'Everyone's celebrating now, but I don't think Dodds is up to managing in the Championship.'

'We'll be lucky not to be bottom...'

'Why haven't they announced anyone to replace the loanees...?'

Does that help a little bit @mooneyman

  • Kone's off

    Lowest crowds in the Championship

Lommy didn't come to the bus top parade

  • Work has got in the way of Gasrooming the last week or so. What an absolute clusterfuck from the OSA and anyone involved.

This is exactly the type of forum that needs to be kept in place during these darkened times. It is,99% of the time, a brilliant, respectful, articulate forum and a sanctity for everyone's mental health & wellbeing. To lose this place would be detrimental to everyone who browses, posts and enjoys this place. To some it might be catastrophic to others a blip but how can such ludicrous legislation, one size fits all, possibly be a good thing.

As many have already said, we owe a great deal to @drcongo for his tireless hours and efforts to keep this place running. Thank you!

Could this rule actually break the internet in the UK? Am glad you are up on the legislation Dr C as I am sure there will be many that are not who could end up with a very unpleasant surprise.

  • I don't post a lot but am in the Gasroom everyday and reading most of the threads in full. It has been a place of escape for me, when pre covid I was made redundant the Gasroom was a somewhere I could go to escape the stress and pain of job hunting. When covid hit and we locked down, again it was a warm bubble where like minded (well sometimes!) Chair boys/girls could come together to discuss all things blues and escape the reality of the pandemic.

Such a shame that the OSA has done for sites like this.....I will write to the Wycombe MP and let her know my thoughts on the matter.

But just wanted to say a massive THANKS to @drcongo for the hard work, you don't know how much this place will be missed when it goes. Thanks and if I see you the Vere ever I'll buy you a pint.

Trouble is, @Twizz Iā€™m not getting the drop down box like wot I got when I put your username in a couple of lines back. Are you using an iPhone? Thatā€™s all I use.

Apologies to everybody for this intrusion but Iā€™m panicking a bit as I am desperately trying to swop email addresses with as many of my favourite Gasroom posters as I can before what will be one of the saddest days in my life.

  • I wonder if we could meet up before a game in the next few weeks so we can identify ourselves in real life so to speak. It would be nice to be able to be able to say hi in future at matches etc but I donā€™t know what any of you look like!

  • My physog can be seen on Facebook, I think.. A pic from nearly ten years ago. Mike Ralph - hence micra.

  • I only stumbled on this thread by mistake and had to do a double take. Thank you @drcongo for everything youā€™ve done to keep this place alive and in check.

Iā€™ve been on and off the gasroom in various guises for the last 20-odd years but only just started to hit my stride! Itā€™s become a real sanctuary away from the crap on FB and the absolute cesspit that is X (which I stepped away from for my own mental health!).

Iā€™d heard bits and pieces about the OSA but naively assumed it was just a bullet aimed at the tech giants. I didnā€™t realise it could have such far reaching consequences.

Might sound a bit OTT but my life will be poorer for not having this place to share the love (most of the time) for WWFC, and many other things.

  • As usual Iā€™m late, but thank you Dr C and I hope that we can all find somewhere else to go. According to my last headmaster I need an audience for my poor attempts at humour.

  • This sums it up for me. I don't actually know any of you but the Gasroom makes me feel like part of a community. I know which posters are tongue in cheek, who knows their tactics, who's in the know, who has decent music taste and, in rare cases, who to ignore or avoid engaging with.

All this will be lost, like tears in rain.

  • Echoing all the above. I am grateful beyond words for all the work (and money) the Good Dr has done over the years to develop and keep this place going.

i have always seen this place as a virtual equivalent of a warm, friendly village-type pub populated with the usual and varied types of characters you tend to get in such places.

When our ā€˜pubā€™ shuts its doors for the last time I must admit I think I will shed a tear. I will miss all of your company.

Iā€™m sure a new one will open up, but it will be all flashing lights, loud music, fizzy lager and ā€˜shotsā€™ and if I do drop in it will probably just be for a quick one now and then rather than settle in for the evening.

    Cheers all.

  • Thanks for the immensely worthwhile effort youā€™ve put into the Gasroom over the years @drcongo

Iā€™ve not been a frequent poster, but have often visited and read with interest.

Hope a successor (and platform) can be found.

  • What a brilliant pair of posts.

I too am an infrequent poster but a constant reader of the Gasroom 1 & 2 for almost 20 years. I would feel bereft should it cease.

I cannot contribute anything from an IT point of view but would happily match my subscription payment to WWTV to retain this, or a similar, facility going forward. Please, someone, take over the establishment before my favourite pub closes.

  • Hear hear to all the above. What a family.

  • It certainly will be missed and our WWFC experience will be changed forever.

  • I haven't been online much this week, but I can't really add much more to what has already been said, so I'll simply say thank you @drcongo.

  • @micra you just ā€˜likedā€™ a comment of mine on Fā€™book Wycombe Wanders Friends (wouldnā€™t have know it was you until a few days back ) so Iā€™ve sent you a ā€˜friendsā€™ request there. Itā€™s not The Gasroom but hey ho and I need to stay in touch for your grammar policing!

  • @drcongo subject to being within the remit of GDPR and of course you agreeing to do so, if we were to individually message you saying we were happy for our email and/or mobiles to be circulated within our community, would it be possible for you to send such a list out?

That way we could at least use a WhatsApp group or set up a Discord area as a stop gap until a suitable alternative is up and running.

  • Like @BSE, I don't have anything to add to the excellent comments already which sum everything up. Thank you so much for giving us a place to ramble, rant and rave! This is a fantastic place. It will be a huge shame when it goes. Thank you for hosting us so well @drcongo

  • Good evening @perfidious_albion. I occasionally chip in with posts - often at some length, as you can imagine! - on Dave Gardnerā€™s WW Friends Facebook page and I saw just now that I have 24 Friend requests ! However I have no wish to add people that I donā€™t know so Iā€™m afraid I ignore them. A fellow Gasroomer is a different matter of course and lā€™d happily accept if I could locate your request. Could you send me a Direct Message with your ā€œrealā€ name, please.

I have swopped email addresses and mobile numbers with a couple of my favourite posters but, as youā€™ll know from my exchanges with @Twizz, I am no longer able to initiate DM contacts. Unlike on the discussion pages, no username list pops up when I type one in the recipient box.

Frustrating. But can I hear a faint voice in the background singing that famous old Vera Lynn song? And no talk of whalemeat if you donā€™t mind.

@micra Like you I canā€™t send messages - name disappears when I start to typešŸ™„ Have sent you a message on ā€˜messengerā€™.

  • I think this sort of idea is a must. We can't just all dissipate and hope to Google a gasroom 3.0 one day and all be reunited. Someone with more technical knowledge than myself needs to sort something šŸ™

  • Yes well said, and apologies @drcongo for not messaging sooner - a heartfelt thanks for all you do.

To encapsulate everything we contribute by word or ear on here, we should always remind ourselves of the thread begun by @BrianJeeves68 recently where he led and many followed with deeply personal stories. This is the thread that proves that this is so much more than a forum and behind the usernames are people. Many of which donā€™t even realise that they are online friends with supporters who sit or stand near them at matches home and away, at the bar, the kiosk and in the club shop. Some may even have shared a drip from the roof of the Frank Adams Stand!

At the very least, I think I can put together a google form on here to gather contact details (even if just an email address) for anyone who wants to attempt to keep in touch in some way, shape or form, unless someone else would rather do this.

Fingers crossed on a new forum being created if we lose this wonderful platform.

Whether a way to continue is found or not, Iā€˜d like to explore some kind of online fanzine to grow out from this forum and this is something Iā€™m going to give some deeper thought to. It wouldnā€™t be to step on the toes of the The Wanderer Fanzine but to provide something a little bit different. Iā€™d like the fanzine to be unique and I have a few ideas on this.

    Enjoy the game today, everyone.

  • I think the gasroom is one of the greatest things about our club, it has also shaped the history of our magnificent club.

I am eternally indebted to everyone and please God, there'll be a Gasroom 3.0.

  • I've been asked to do this sort of thing in the past and tbh handing out people's email addresses and personal details to random people isn't ideal, I'm sure the Dr would be happy to email all members with a message from any decent successor should it come to it.

I wonder if we are too late to change his mind though, the spirit on here has been much better in recent days (Yes-that may change should we not be 3-0 up by ten past three) and a number of people have also offered to help with technical support, moderation and payment. More than happy to add myself to that list. It is a community not just a forum, it fills an important gap for a number of people and there's not too much of that about at the moment despite the staggeringly obvious need.

  • I echo what everyone has said about this great community and would also be happy to pay a subscription or volunteer to moderate.

Would also not miss the Direct messaging or Uploading functions if they had to be sacrificed to help with the new regulations.

  • I am an infrequent poster but regular reader. I agree 100% with what @NiceCarrots has said. Thank you for bringing me plenty to think about, @drcongo , as well as the not infrequent broad smile. COYB!

  • What @Vital said. Happy to pay and volunteer to help, and would not miss messaging at all.
