Countdown to Wrexham

  • I also hope King Kone controls his enthusiasm as well. Pleased that he has his first goal since his injury. Would hate to see an excitable referee given a decision to make by him trying too hard as well.

  • Kone will have to be careful with his elbows when jumping for headers. He’s been booked in both of the last games for just this. Wrexham will be looking for every opportunity to influence the ref and get Kone off the pitch. It’s all a learning process.

  • Thinking very much alike at the same time - spooky!

  • Indeed...sending off the League's top scorer in one of the biggest games of the season in an episode of a Disney documentary...a referee might like a bit of that.

  • Shame Simons is going to be missing. I'm sure we'll look better when he's back.

I wonder if Dodds has been saving the 3142 formation back to surprise Wrexham with - setting up in a way that will be very solid defensively but will allow us to attack with pace and surprise.

    Norris

    Low Taylor Bradley

    Scowen

    Back/Onyedinma Humphreys Lowry Reach/Berry

    Kone Udoh

  • The back 3 worked for a spell in the championship, but had an almost unplayable loan front man in Uche and other players like Fred putting in great shifts in uncustomary positions.

Not sure moving to back 3 is the play right now. It suits Bradley, but i'm not sure what we'd gain from Reach and assume Pattenden would replicate what we'd get from wide forwards?

It worked against Birmingham in an emergency backs against the walls situation, but not sure for a team that don't seem to have their early season verve, that adding another defender helps that?

  • Wouldn't mind this. Whatever the chosen formation, I'm sure Dodds watched Tuesday night's game and will have seen how Reading aggressively pressed Wrexham's ageing line-up. As much as experience is valuable, we need our most energetic players on the pitch from the off.

  • These are fair points but we'll need to do something different to usual as we have not yet worked out how to get at teams that sit back and play on the counter attack. Wrexham do that better than anyone else in the division. I think bolstering our defence allows us to be confident they'll handle anything Wrexham throw at us, allowing us to go for all out attack with the other players using speed, guile and bombast.

  • I would love to see this solid but exciting lineup @aloysius but I suspect the reality may be somewhat different. Lowry and Humphreys in midfield together would be an absolute treat and especially if we can get Berry in one of the wing back slots.

However I feel we will see something like this;-

    Grimmer, Taylor, Low, Reach

    Scowen, Leahy,

    Humphreys

    Fred, Kone, Udoh.

  • The key to winning this match is getting the ball to the wide players as quickly as possible in transition. Otherwise we’ll be playing against a set defense who love to play that way. If the boy genius Humphrey’s has a big game we will win.

  • We went back 3 out of the blue v Huddersfield and lost that one.

Just one game, but a big formation change in the biggest game feels risky.

I think our back 2 can keep their fairly pedestrian front 2 quiet as it is to be honest.

  • I’m already nervous, but I agree that the game will hinge on Humphreys and Scowen. Can Scowen get by as the lone pivot with limited support? Can Humphreys drift into pockets and half spaces to cause havoc? The game will be won and lost with those two - and a bit of Kone magic.

  • I understand the attraction of going 3-5-2, but given the strength of the Low/Taylor partnership, messing with it for a game like this seems like a big risk. And Dodds doesn't seem like much of a gambler.

  • Famous win incoming on Saturday and promotion to follow in a few weeks time.

Will be plenty of bedwetters claiming to have always believed when that happens.

  • Here you go, Micra. This appears to be Wrexham's Crew. Probably best to ambush them at the station as that appears to be the way they will be getting here. Unusual to see more badges for other teams on a flag. So they might be at a Celtic or Bohemians Dublin game that day. I haven't checked.

  • As they come out of the station I’ll beguile them with the origin story of the British Rail double arrow which will give my preparation H lads a chance to put the squeeze on.

  • Blue Islands will be operating a football charter flight tomorrow. They’ll be flying

Wrexham are flying to the game.....

  • It's an omen - the plane is blue. I wonder they will be flying back in blue too.

  • Feeling blue, hopefully.

  • What a total waste of money, I really hope we hammer them.

  • Their club are probably running some little "sustainability" virtue signalling project elsewhere. Only to see the first team absolutely needlessly take a short distance flight like that!

  • An absolutely pointless flight. It’s 115 miles from Hawarden Airport to Oxford Airport.

  • In an incredibly boring article I've just read, it seems Wrexham FC changed the ink in their printers....

HP Latex inks are amongst the most environmentally friendly in printing. With the investment in HP Latex printing technology, the designs are water-based and provide a sustainable printing method when compared to typical UV and solvent based print technologies.

and this appears to be part of a long term plan to make the club environmzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • A mate of mine has a spare ticket for tomorrow if anyone is interested, FA upper block Q. DM me if interested and I'll give you his number.

  • Dodds in the BFP

Wycombe Wanderers head coach Mike Dodds has insisted his side ‘just need to focus on ourselves’ as they prepare for a promotion-pushing fixture against League One rivals Wrexham. Dodds expects the Red Dragons to be a completely different outfit in Buckinghamshire on Saturday afternoon.

He said: “Wrexham will bring experienced players to the game and they have got an experienced manager.

“He has managed the league well and has a lot of experience. Are you experienced? Have you ever been experienced? Well, I have

The plane nonsense is a ‘narrative arc’(!!) for their documentary- “vital game / small margins” etc etc . It’s for American audiences who are used to teams flying from one side of the continent to the other , most have no concept of geography and indeed would drive the distance from Wrexham to Wycombe to buy a new rifle from Woolmart 🙄

  • Did the Wycombe team fly to Gateshead that time, or was it just @floyd and @Tory_Goon?

  • They certainly flew up for the Sunday game after we'd played on the Saturday. A much longer journey than Chester to Oxford though!
