We need to sort out our attacking line-up, which has faltered recently. McCleary and Fred have struggled for form in the new year, I don't see a place for Lubala, for some reason - perhaps fitness, although in interviews Dodds has been a bit odd about it - Kone isn't starting, it's only Udoh who has put something of a run together.
So, probably not, but that's a default position so the taste is all the sweeter if we manage it.
Agree with you completely on the fitness thing. But then I know a lot of people in their 40s who keep very fit at an amateur sport for the love of it, so it feels like pros should as an absolute minimum keep fit all the year round. But like everyone has said, new league, strong squad, to hit the ground running was a big ask.
Not sure Simons being out makes any difference to Westergaard's chances though, aside from on a simple, one player down, room for another basis. Ones a deeper player, Westo seems more a Scowen or even Humphreys role. Although we'd need more than 2 or 3 cameos to be certain!
I’d be very surprised if decent supporters of our rivals still think the same way today. We’re second on merit, and whilst the heady heights of Stockport away are now a long, gone memory, I’d like to think we’ve earned our rivals’ respect. Maybe not! I suppose we’ll always be ‘little Wycombe’ to many.
In the balance for me. We look solid at the back and I do think it just depends on us keeping our noses ahead of Disney FC. Much more pressure on them to get promoted than us and that may play in our favour. Playoffs would be interesting though.
Not entirely true. We've played worse and got results. What matters in football, if you didn't know, is scoring more than your opponent. We played worse than MK Dons in the last semi that we were in, and I was at Wembley in the final.
Exactly this. One of the reasons why bookmakers earn a fortune is that games are very hard to predict, especially at this stage of the season when pressure produces unexpected results. Since the original post just 7 days ago, all 9 teams listed have dropped points that the magic extrapolation formula would not have predicted.
I genuinely wonder why some people prefer to take a pessimistic view of things. By making that definitive statement you are effectively predicting the outcome of 13 games (11 league plus 2 playoffs) and even the magic extrapolation formula has been proven to be wrong when it comes to forecasting that far ahead.
I've streamed the last few Wrexham games, and they've been the inferior side in every one. They're winning whilst playing poorly though, largely relying on luck and the opposition missing chances. Performances don't equal results
We will not finish second. I'm guessing we'll go up through the play-offs. I'm basing that on nothing except the fact that I've got a prior commitment on the day of the League 1 play-off final.
It’s a bit of a pinch yourself season really for us isn’t it? I know we’ve got a wealthy owner but to be in this position with only a few games to go- seriously- what a time! I reckon we have the players to go up but, really, form over the next few weeks will determine if we really do. Big but not decisive game coming up :)
As long as we don’t lose on Saturday and subsequently win our game in hand……..
It does feel a bit wobbly at present but my mind keeps going back to that seminal moment when Matt Bloomfield made a double substitution midway through the second half of a dour game that was petering out and the whole team raised their game as if by magic. Cameron Humphreys scored a cracking goal within a few minutes of coming on and, although not as theatrically, Aaron Morley announced his arrival with a sound debut in the centre of midfield.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful on Saturday if the introduction early in the second half of two of our recent signings led to some similar magic. Other timings are available.
The two I have in mind are Berry and Lowry but, again, other options are available.
I'm desperate for us to secure promotion so we can start the why we don't have the players (or The Player), the manager, the ground or the fanbase to survive in the Championship thread.
I had a bit of a Gasroom outage there for a while. I assume part of @drcongo winding down.
If the Gasroom does gasp it's last without warning, just want to say in advance it's been a blast and I've enjoyed (mostly) this, my favourite waste of time.

I think probably not.

Exhibit A: Jack Grealish ten days into the closed season.

He's one of the ensmallening group of "street" footballers who live by different rules.
Average league place of the teams Wrexham play in the last 12 games: 12.9
Average league place of our last 12: 10
Yes -is the answer to the question in the thread title, maybe even before the Stockport game.
Yes

I asked Foghorn Leghorn for his opinion
We are going up, boy.....I say we are going up.
I was very confident until half time today! Hope we make some good changes this half.
Still confident.
But just out of interest, how many more points do we need to guarantee top 6 ;-)
Wrexham go second.....
Well we should but we won't now so that's that.
This is the way the season ends

Not with a bang but a whimper.
6 days on from this post and it hasn't aged well.
There are many twists and turns yet, my friends.
Bit early to post-gloat then isn’t it. If we play like today for the rest of the season we’ll be knocked out of the playoffs at the semis.

Often winning when playing badly is the sign of a very effective side

Given our uneven record with full houses of people who may never come back, I was quite enjoying winning in front of tinpot crowds.
(Here's hoping Reading do us a favour...)
Reading do us a favour and win for us could see us 3 points clear with a game in hand. Now wouldn’t that be great few days.
Yes it will 👍👍👍

Onwards and upwards.
