  • I keep marveling at what a fine win that was, and a quality game too (credit to Mansfield). To do it in the context of the week we have had is just incredible.

Put it this way: Blooms came in after an amiable departure as the heir apparent when the team was flying, and we still put in an uneven performance with a loss away to Shrewsbury. Today we went into the game with less momentum, a more difficult opposition, and a contentious week...and put in a brilliant display.

I think one of my main emotions today is relief that we can get back to (mostly) focusing on the players!

One other moment few will have seen but the benefit of TV replays: Leahy and Humphreys look of sheer joy at each other after McCleary’s goal.

  • Good call.. On a mooch in the city tomorrow and may have to pop in..

  • Cam seems completely emotionally attached to this club. This is a credit to what our club has always stood for, it’s our house and we are family. I think when he goes back to Ipswich and goes on to have the stellar career he deserves, and I think he has England potential one day, I think he will definitely have that trip back to Suffolk with a tear or two in his eyes.

  • Great performance but wow we really do have a lot of strength in depth, apart from maybe right back at the moment. With Sadlier, Low and Westagaard and maybe Anders to fit into the team, we have more exciting times ahead.

    Sonny times ahead 👍.

  • Really good, exciting game today and at times some excellent football and some determined defence late on.

Fantastic win and atmosphere at the ground and great to see the players encouraging us to make more noise when we were under pressure.

Just one observation to add that I really enjoyed and not really seen mentioned on here.

Shortly before we scored our second their No 11. Who had been a moaning, whinging prick most of the second half, had a pretty much open goal with the ball at his feet 5/6 yards out and managed to steer it well wide of the goal rather than give Mansfield the lead which they would probably have kept.

‘Served him right’ I thought at the time and Karma was delivered on him shortly afterwards.

  • Lovely stuff. Also nice to see Humphreys talking to Skura after he'd given the ball away cheaply.

We might be ok you know.

  • Fair enough if he deserved it. Sonny also gave Skura a thank you hand shake after he missed a header and Declan cleared the ball away with his head. Good team work.

  • Maybe England is pushing it, but if he doesn't have a lengthy spell in the Premier League I will be disappointed, he is magic.

  • Yeah I may have been a bit emotional myself when I wrote that, especially the England part. But he reminds me of the old Spectrum footy games where the ball is attached to his foot, he’s that good on the ball!

  • He will learn so much from Sonny in this loan spell. Some of his headers towards the end (against Flint!) were massive. On two occasions I assumed it was Sonny smashing the ball with his head 25 yards upfield, but it was Declan. We know he can play football with his feet and maybe adding some ugly stuff to his game will make him the player we all hope he can be. Really early on in his career but so much talent and potential.

  • Yes, Skura played very well at the end. He barely won a header in the first half though against their admittedly giant forwards, and played a few shaky passes. This will be fantastic experience for him

  • The scenes at the end. The turmoil of the last week has brought everyone at the club together even more than before. The culture of this fantastic club lives on. Can't wait for next Saturday.

  • Thanks John. 🐷

  • Funnily enough I can recall several occasions when the Mansfield players fell to the ground and rolled around after being tackled then mysteriously leapt up again when they realised that the referee (who I thought was ok apart from adding an excessive amount of stoppage time) wasn’t going to award a free kick.

  • Swings and roundabouts isn’t it.

we had three shouts in one move in first half (foul on Lubala and two handballs), all were 50-50 shouts, none given.

Lubala was also denied a cast iron penalty in second half. He had to header over as he was pushed off balance by the defender. That’s not been talked about but both Lubala and Kone protested heavily to ref. I thought ref in general had a good game but that decision was one he got majorly wrong.

  • All cliched pish based on reputation, I'm sure we played that game over the years like everyone else has at times but imagine being shamed for gamesmanship because Ainsworth was our manager by a fan base that were behind Steve Evans*. When they came to us under him it was like a rugby match

*Not literally of course, you'd not see much of the game if you were sat behind big Steve.

  • Wrexham fans absolutely smashing the players and manager on their forum. Absolute wankers, as if they’re entitled to sweep through the divisions on their march to the premier league. God I hope we don’t attract these kind of people in the future. Sickening scenes.

  • As long as you can't read Chinese, you'll be fine.

  • As the closest Premier League team to Bicester Village I think we know where the new fanbase is coming from, Mr Thumbs down!

  • Just had a read. It is disgraceful what they are saying for a team that was non league a few years ago. A lot about their away form which someone posted the above stats.

  • While you always want to look forward and progress, there's always a section of the fan base that gets a bit too expectant.

We've seen it a bit ourselves. It wasn't that long ago staying up in league 1 felt a huge thing. Now not making the playoffs would feel a big blow.

  • I'd say we're doing ok on expectations but do tend to overestimate our lovliness sometimes.

Best shown in the belief that every 6 month loan sign returns to their parent club in tears because they want to stay with us forever.

Was at the match yesterday in Mansfield. Had some lovely chats with some proper fans. Great win and experience, shame about Mansfields fans having a bit of a tiff.

Sam Grace is at the wheel. Give him the contract

  • Just watched the excellent post match interview with Sam Grace. One of our own, give him the job!

  • Wrexham have a huge issue with the aged squad. By the end of this season the 12 players with the current most appearances will have an average age over 30. Mullin's reached his level and is struggling in a winning team, Fletcher will likely retire as he's 38 and unable to last 45 mins, let alone 90 mins, the three games he's been asked to play more than 45 they've lost all of them.

All four of their main strikers are well over 30 and probably need replacing in the close season. I suspect we might see them slip down the table over the next four months as the number of games hit the older legs.

They've not signed anyone or loaned in anyone yet in January which probably adds to the anger.

  • Yeah great turnout from Mansfield yesterday. Both stands packed out. Agree above @flymofrank Wrexham ageing playing hopefully will slow down and stop the pressure on us

Love Mansfield great club, especially what happened in 2014. I was in Torquay that day, so very happy to make the trip to Mansfield to watch the mighty Wanderers.

Big changes and got to keep the optimism flowing, WWFC
