FA Cup third round day, anyone have a poem to start us off?

  • Feels like there's a new optimism in the air after a somewhat gloomy start to the year. League takes preference but this game feels eminently winnable. COYB!

  • FA Cup third round

    It's fucking freezing outside

    Come on you chairboys

  • I'm not known for my poetry skills, sorry.

  • With pessimism spiking

    Wycombe signed a viking

We can't pronounce his name yet

Let's go and cause an upset

  • Maybe we should make this

    a poetry only thread.

Even while the match is on,

    and you're ranting about Fred.

  • Can our Wycombe rhymes

    Silence Pompey chimes?

  • This atmosphere is hell

    Until someone silences that bell

  • I wonder if he'll be trying to take a whizz on our seats like he did v Southampton.

Might find it freezes up / snaps off if he does.

  • By the sounds of it, he's even more notorious and less popular among Pompey fans than Mr Drummer is among ours

  • There are subtle signs

    We live in different times

    Whilst Pompey chimes are waining

    The Chairboys drum bangs on

    And on

    And on

    And on

  • Not poetry, unfortunately

    Lacking both metre and rhyme

Post these in the other thread

    if you find the time.

  • We had a player named Morley

Who left and so we played poorly

    We signed a Dane

    To help our form regain

But we still miss him sorely

  • I'm excited to see

    Our new signing from Molde

I just pray that this time

    The coffee's not cold

    Our best season in years

But all we currently hear is fears

Low to go, Kone to go

But Bloomy going would arguably be the biggest blow.

We've brought in some Danish fella

Loads of gasroom blaggers pretending they know he's stellar

    I hope they're right

    We really need his might

Otherwise the gasroom is gonna be an ugly sight

With glasshalf empty leading the "woe is us" tales

Even though at 2nd in the league the wind should be in our sails.

Midlander speaks with such authority on all things blue

But I can't really recall many situations he's called true

Frequent stander switches between high and low

He tells us his "group" all back his flow

    @Shev , @micra and @Wendoverman give us a more grounded feeling

Personally in a sea of ranters, I find them healing.

So on we go to tonizzy

I fancy a Wycombe win. Let's get bizzy!

  • Will the big Dane play?

    The Home Office in-tray

    we hope will confirm it

by issue of a work permit

  • I've just realised too much extra time, possible extra time and pens might mean I get locked in at the school...three first half goals please boys!

  • They came from north south east and west

As all true blues know the Cup is best

Battling through ice and police ont M40

Put your foot down, even though it's naughty!

Pompey came by river, bells a ringing

But when pubs close it'll be chairboys singing

Cos in the year twenty twenty-five

It's Wycombe keeping Cup dreams alive.

  • We have fallen in love with loanees again

And it's mere days after them leaving

Potts rocks up to an FA Cup game

    A reminder of past grieving

  • It's as cold as fu*k tonight,

But we're going to be alright.

If we score enough goals this evening

It'll end any talk of Matt leaving.

  • Looking back at 2025

The club was looking to evolve

Tensions were high with internal strife

But nothing an FA Cup trophy couldn't solve

  • Win tonight, all is well

    Lose tonight, we're in hell

  • Inspired by @manchesterchairboy in the attendance threads, I thought I would ask Mr. ChatGPT to write one for us. Here is what he came up with:

    Chairboys in the Cup

Through icy winds and winter's chill,

The Chairboys march with heart and will.

From Adams Park, where dreams take flight,

We brave the cold to cheer tonight.

A Viking now dons our famous blue,

A warrior’s spirit, bold and true.

    With every tackle, every goal,

He fuels the fire in Wycombe's soul.

Pompey’s bells may chime and ring,

But tonight, it’s Chairboys who will sing.

Through grit and fight, we’ll stake our claim,

To keep alive the FA Cup flame.

So raise your voices, loud and proud,

For Wycombe’s faithful, the loyal crowd.

On Cup nights like this, under starry skies,

Legends are made, and hope never dies.

  • @Wendoverman committed high crime

To post in the thread without rhyme

He must hang his head low

    and even should go

without crisps until the ref calls full time

  • Will the overseas broadcasts have commentary in the local languages tonight?

Would be amazing if someone can get the 'Goooooooooooaaaaaaaaal!' on Argentine TV when Rav scores the winner.

  • I have been told that the ESPN broadcast over here will indeed be in American.

  • I wonder what the guy who called JJ ‘Yakobsen,’ will make of Hagelskjær.

  • So, Shev aside, how’s everyone watching this evening?

In terms of what the bookies are saying, we’re favourites (evens), Pompey are 9/4, Sam Vokes is 7/4 anytime goalscorer (???) and Matt Bloomfield is 12/1 to be managing in Saudi Arabia next year.

  • Sam Vokes has been ruled out of a return tonight so think I’ll keep my money.

Old school... actually going to the game!!

    Imagine.

  • I miss those days. When my girls are a little bit older, not only will I be able to say that I’ll be going to the game, but they’ll be coming with me. “Daddy, have we always been a top flight team playing champagne football?!” “No darling, just before you were born we were stinking out the Championship”
