Caleb Taylor recalled

  • @davecz if the management of a football club (one of whom had been a player at said club and seen it happen ) did not factor in the possibility of a good loan player going back to his parent club, I would be very worried.

@StrongestTeam who would not want to join a club (loan or permanent) with a good reputation, pushing for promotion? It will be a shame for Caleb and Morley if they miss out on a medal, if their clubs' title challenges stumble.

  • If they played enough games they might be eligible for a medal at Wycombe still - Ritchie De Laet won the promotion medal with Middlesbrough and the Premier League winners' medal with Leicester the same day in 2016 because of that.

  • EFL rule book says 25% of the season (and that includes unused substitute appearances). We can then pay for extra medals at our expense if we so desired (eg if you have someone who played only 10 games but scored 10 goals in them, you’d probably get them one)

  • Whatever happens to them for the rest of the season, both Morley and Taylor will be back in a Wycombe shirt in May. Stood on an open-top bus through the streets of High Wycombe.

Caleb Taylor being compared with Steven Taylor illustrates just how exceptional he’s been for us. One of the best central defenders we’ve ever had. It’s been a real pleasure watching him in the famous quarters.

Oh well. It was nice whilst it lasted. Time to recalibrate expectations. It’s been so much fun watching us put a spoke in Birmingham City’s wheel. Sadly it’s our wheels that’ll be coming off now.

Dan Rice's analytical revolution is now front and center, with a bit of pressure to prove it's worth after losing two of Scott Mitchell's success stories.

I am confident we will be an attractive landing spot. Not as upset as others, as I thought it was extremely likely Morley would go back once it became apparent how much we were outshining Bolton with him, and Caleb seemed like a toss-up, but the needle moved towards leaving once the Baggies had their injuries. Nothing unfair or "what might have been" about either scenario, as neither belonged to us. They both have basically perfect legacies with us - their darkest hour is the one EFL match we lost with them in the side!

I feel a genuine sense of excitement - we might even get better players, you know! I can imagine a Champo (or even PL) decision maker scanning the EFL horizon and seeing Wycombe as a club at the very top of the tree, overachieving but still able to give serious minutes to good loanees.

Assuming we can get deals across the line quickly, having three home games in 7 days will give the new starters every opportunity to bed in quickly.

I think Bakinson and Scowen can more than make up for Morley until the end of January, I think we do need a replacement in by the end of the window though in case one of those got injured.

Taylor has been so good, Tafa distribution is just not at his level and we need a fourth centre half asap. If we somehow manage to keep onto Joe Low then I think Skura/Tafa can do a job but I would like to see another CB through the door similar to Taylor. Hartridge for me is left back cover and occasional, if needs must, centre back cover in a back four.

  • Have we had a West Brom loanee before? The way I see it, every successful loan is a door to more - you form a relationship with a club and get more favours from them.

  • With respect, if Ward and Bartolo are getting first team minutes, I'd be extremely worried about the rest of our season.

  • The transfer policy of loaning in talent from higher up and also scouring non-league for raw gems has paid off pretty well so far and I think it's actually a good thing the club hasn't deviated from that despite the new wealth. Obviously having a bit more money in the bank means some clubs will try to play hard ball over transfer fees but I don't see any need to change the approach until non-league scouting is no longer sustainable for the first team and only really works for the development squad (especially if it can attain Category 1 status and enter PL2)

  • I'd have them on the bench for the FA Cup tie if Blooms is resting players, but look at a League Two or National League loan for the two of them in the meantime. They're young players with the potential to come good (perhaps Ward less so at 21) but getting them involved with the first team's activities while they're in between loans won't hurt anyone, and will be a chance to assess how their spell at Weymouth has affected their approaches. Would rather try to take as much opportunities as possible to give them a chance than risk losng out like happened with Al-Hamadi.

That's a good point. You'd have to think our "power rankings" for loan relationships looks something like this in light of recent activity and prior relationships:

    1. West Ham
    2. Ipswich
    3. West Brom

    (467 - Bolton)

    (587 - Man City)

  • Kind of a shame Bishop's loan hasn't really worked out for him but that's not really his fault and more a consequence of Ravizzoli having such a great season in goal.

  • I thought they were Dobbo's contact, primarily? I know Marcus Bean is now a scout for them, but that does not seem to have any impact on our loan chances.

  • We had Fred back on loan from Millwall. McCarthy and PCH too?

I said "recent activity" and "prior relationships" owing to the regime change from GA to MB. I know MB was here as a player during the prior management era, but I think it may be a stretch to say that he would have all the same relationships?

With MB here not quite two years, there is not too much activity to go on, I suppose. Crystal Palace loaned us Phillips, Forest loaned us Taylor, so maybe they will be good contacts.

Clubs that want to buy our players and then give them back for free always welcome.

No idea how @Shev although Dobbo certainly had links there, but Saunders and Yennaris were some pair to send on loan in one go, a bit out of form and recovering from injuries maybe but experienced first team favourites.

  • Doesn't Blooms know someone in the setup at West Ham?

  • Or was one of our guys previously there?

  • Gasroom posters right now

  • Let's at least wait until we're not top of the whole table before writing it off eh?

  • Interesting twist in terms of Joe Low.

It’s being reported that Swansea City manager Luke Williams is going to be interviewed for the West Brom job tomorrow. As a result, his odds for the position have tumbled.

Williams has been pretty vocal in the last 24 hours about how much he likes Low having previously coached him in the academy at Bristol City.

This could of course mean anything. Swansea might continue or now drop their interest or West Brom might suddenly be interested in Joe. That could see him being paired again with Taylor for WBA or even free Taylor up to come back to Wycombe.

All I know is it’s making my head hurt thinking about it all.

  • Could you imagine the absolute worst combination - of him putting a monster bid in for Low at WBA, and bringing their band back together and utterly annihilating our defence in one swoop!

At least it delays the Swansea bid stuff though - they surely can't be bidding for Low with the manager looking elsewhere - meaning at least he'll play Saturday !

  • Means he can bring even more money if he wants him.

Let's get the shredder set up under the fax machine.

  • I have no idea - I was putting them high because of the back-to-back Potts and Kodua loans, which would seem to earn their trust (though hopefully Kodua can have a good second half to seal the deal after his injury).

  • Jeremy Sauer was at West Ham, probably who I'm thinking of

Evidently they would see a lot of the ball, as I believe Luke Williams is from the Russell Martin school of slowly passing it around the back unadventurously until you make a mistake and concede.

Martin is one of the strangest ever cases of "failing upward" purely because he "believes in playing the right way."

  • He's always been a confusing one to me as I always thought he was truly average at Wycombe's level.

Luckily football experts know more than me and he played for yonks in the prem and internationally!
