  • Assuming he is mooving freely again.

  • Being ‘out on the grass’ might mean easing the pain in his joints sitting in a lay-by nr Marlow having a whity?

  • That must be slang for something? I've lead a very sheltered life.

  • It's when you faint/vomit after getting high

  • Injury update ahead of Reading (H) tomorrow (7th December 2024)

    OUT:

Kieran Sadlier (hernia surgery) | Last played: 10th October 2024 (Queens Park Rangers (H) W1-0)

Return date: back for Bolton Wanderers (H)

Sam Vokes (knee ligaments) | Last played: 20th August 2024 (AFC Wimbledon (A) L0-1)

Return date: Swindon Town (H) EFL Trophy on Tuesday (optimistic)

Josh Scowen (knee) | Last played: 12th November 2024 (Crawley Town (H) 2-1)

Return date: Exeter City (H) New Years Day (best case scenario)

Gideon Kodua (unspecified) | Last played: 2nd November 2024 (York City (H) W3-2)

Return date: Exeter City (H) New Years Day

As for Reading, they're without three players.

Full-back Andy Yiadom (knee), centre-back Kelvin Abrefa (ankle ligaments) and winger Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan (hip tendon) are long-term absentees.

    They'll line up as follows

    (4-3-3)

    Joel Pereira 22

    Michael Craig 36 - Amadou Mbengue 27 - Tyler Bindon 24 - Jeriel Dorsett 29

    Ben Elliott 4 - Lewis Wing 29 - Charlie Savage 8

    Chem Campbell 20 - Sam Smith 10 - Mamadi Camara 28

  • Commentators breathe a collective sigh of relief at the news Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan is out

  • I always appreciate these - with the club’s ongoing secrecy on injuries, do you have a source on returns, or is it just educated guesses based on interviews etc? Not a criticism at all, just a question. I’d have no idea on returns if it wasn’t for your posts so thank you

Are the ‘returns’ conjecture or intel based?

  • edited December 2024

Nature abhors a vacuum and all that. Sources are varied, with obviously official sources given priority. We know from Matt Bloomfield that Sam Vokes is "back on the grass" (assuming not the CBD kind) and Gideon Kodua won't be fit until after Christmas.

Recovery from hernia surgery is usually 3-4 weeks and Kieran Sadlier did say he was "looking forward to being back on the pitch very soon." Josh Scowen's return date is based upon a specific source from a trusted friend.

  • Scowen out for another month is best case? Doh!

  • Didn’t Bloomfield say Kodua should be back before Christmas?

  • As a general rule when managers say a player is 'back' I interpret it as back in training, rather than available for selection. Of course, none of this is an exact science.

  • Was I the only one who read those numbers as ages until i got to Ben Elliot?

  • I hope we still have a great December, as I don't want to spend the future wondering what might have happened had we not risked Scowen in a pointless Pizza Cup game.

  • Injury update ahead of Shrewsbury Town (A) tomorrow (14th December 2024)

    OUT: 5

Kieran Sadlier (hernia surgery) | Last played: 10th October 2024 (Queens Park Rangers (H) W1-0)

Return date: next Friday v Bolton Wanderers (H)

Josh Scowen (knee) | Last played: 12th November 2024 (Crawley Town (H) 2-1)

Return date: could he also be back next Friday v Bolton Wanderers (H)? (optimistic?)

Sam Vokes (knee ligaments) | Last played: 20th August 2024 (AFC Wimbledon (A) L0-1)

Return date: who knows, but is back in training and wearing football boots.

Gideon Kodua (unspecified) | Last played: 2nd November 2024 (York City (H) W3-2)

Return date: Exeter City (H) New Years Day

Brandon Hanlan (muscle) | Last played: 10th December 2024 (Swindon Town (H) L1-2)

Return date: muscle injuries are inevitable after long-term injuries, hopefully his midweek substitution was precautionary

Shrewsbury Town are without just one player. Striker Joshua Kayode is recovering from a calf injury. Stewart Castledine's son, Leo, is likely to start in the No. 10 role, just in case you weren't already feeling old.

  • Josh Scowen seen wearing boots in vid on Pre Match Drills of Blooms getting his manager of the month award. Hopefully at least on the bench this week and back all guns blazing against Bolton

  • Good call! That made me examine the video like the Zapruder film. Sadlier and Vokes out there too, though they could just be dressed up for the photo as I could not see their boots. Mind you, Sads is in a short sleeve shirt, which I don't think one would wear in this weather without planning to run around!

Hanlan and Kodua are the only two I did not spot, which would match their expected status.

  • "Very, very close to getting back into the team very soon"

So he's not quite close to being back in the team, but close to *soon* being back in the team? Far too much going on in this sentence!

  • Most certainly so.

  • Injury update ahead of Bolton Wanderers (H) tomorrow (20th December 2024)

    DOUBTS:

Kieran Sadlier (hernia surgery) | Last played: 10th October 2024 (Queens Park Rangers (H) W1-0)

Return date: could he return to face his former club?

Josh Scowen (knee) | Last played: 12th November 2024 (Crawley Town (H) 2-1)

Return date: back in training but Matt Bloomfield suggests this one is likely to be too soon for him.

    OUT:

Dan Harvie (suspended) | serves a one-match ban after collecting his fifth booking of the season.

Aaron Morley (ineligible) | cannot play against his parent club under the terms of his loan.

Return date: Exeter City (H) New Years Day.

Brandon Hanlan (muscle) | Last played: 10th December 2024 (Swindon Town (H) L1-2)

Return date: your guess is as good as mine.

Bolton Wanderers have three doubts and six out.

Right wing-back Jordi Osei-Tutu (knee), winger Carlos Mendes Gomes (ruptured Achilles) and midfielder Scott Arfield (calf) are the doubts.

Centre-backs George Johnston and Ricardo Almeida Santos both serve one-match bans after collecting their fifth bookings of the season.

Centre-backs Eoin Toal (hamstring) and Chris Forino-Joseph (hamstring surgery) are long-term absentees

Midfielders Josh Sheehan (hamstring) and Kyle Dempsey (knee surgery) aren't expected to return. Josh Sheehan is the player Ian Evatt prefers to Aaron Morley.

You've become the unofficial source of injury updates, before you know it the club is going to offer you a permanent position on the backroom team @glasshalfempty

  • Update: Jordi Osei-Tutu will miss the game. Randell Williams is expected to replace him in the right wing-back role.

    Expected line-up: 3-1-4-2

    Nathan Baxter

Josh Dacres-Gogley - Will Forrester - Gethin Jones

    Jay Matete

Randell Williams - George Thomason - John McAtee - Szabolcs Schon

    Aaron Collins - Dion Charles

  • 4 months out for Vokes now. He's pretty much missed the whole emergence of us as a real quality force in the division.

  • That's still a very strong League One side. Shouldn't be under any illusions - tomorrow will be a really tough game.

  • Gethin Jones has to be an egg chaser. Szabolcs Schon had to be a typo. Nathan Baxter is a pretty good GK iirc.

  • I wouldn’t mind signing Randell Williams
